      1. Just got 96sqft of Second Skin butyl, 102sqft of Silles sound deadening mat,4 rolls of luxury liner, 100 sqft of Noise Grabber MLV barrier and a Dynamat hood liner for sound proofing the Tacoma. Will it work and how many days will it take to install?

Yes it will and it depends on how fast you are at cleaning, cutting, and rolling.

It took a half day for me to do just the doors, but they had a fair amount of dirt that needed removing.

I'd start with doors and the rear wall. They are easy enough and make the most noticable improvement. The floor by itself will probably take 1-1.5 days - I'd save that one for a three day weekend, and probably do it last.

if any of them have the aluminum foil for the exposed side it will leave your fingers with paper cuts. if instructions say ware gloves, do it!

i think the first part you should do is the back wall of the cab. i get a ton of road noise through there. had that rear panel replaced when i had a small fire melt the insulation this summer. i wonder if there is even any sound deadening installed back there normally or they forgot to install it.

I just added a sub on the back wall and there’s not much back there originally but I removed basically the thin foam but I’ll be adding it to the floor, back wall, doors, ceiling and hood. I’ve got 3 layers and I’m gonna use it all

I got 4 rolls of the Lucent liner at $80 a pop and then I found 100’ for $200 so I got it and I’m gonna use it until I run out of room. I shouldn’t need that much but it’s a 1/4” thick but the luxury liner is 3/8’s thick goin on the doors after the foam and butyl

    I’ll
I’ve heard that before. The sound skin and kilmat have aluminum so I’ll definitely wear gloves. Thanks. Gotta keep them nice for the ladies

Break the project into chunks. A single door should only take a couple hours if you’re moving slow.

you’ll see the biggest differences in doing the doors first. Then you can see if you want to do the floor/ceiling after that.

if you have an Apple Watch you can measure decibel difference from in cab while driving around.

On my access cab, I took out all of the rear seats and made a platform for the dogs to sit on. But before I put it all back together, I put on Dynamat and 1/4" thick closed cell foam over that. Covered the whole back wall, and cubby area. Dropped road noise from the back area to nothing. Just the Dynamat and foam took me about 2 hours. Cutting and rolling into place was a pain. Wear gloves!

And do the pool noodle mod you can find on here. Makes a much bigger difference than you'd think on the rear wall noise.

I've read and heard from several sources that Dynamat only require about 25% coverage before you get a point of diminishing returns. Meaning you'll get a noticeable reduction in noise and vibration when you apply it to about a quarter of the surface but anything more will be a waste of time and material. I plan on hitting my doors tomorrow when I install new speakers and won't be trying to get every square inch.

I believe that. Probably has to do with the fact that decibels are measured logarithmically

I did the back wall of my cab yesterday. Took me about 40 minutes start to finish. And the difference was amazing. I could hardly hear my daughter talking to me from the back seat (10 yrs Army aviation, 20 yrs as a tech, I'm deaf), until last night. Now I can hear her plain as day. And I don't have to turn the radio up as high either now.

This morning it was raining pretty hard, and now I notice how tinny the roof sounds. Doors and roof at next.

can a anti rust fluid spray be used in the doors before the deadening materials?

From my understanding the material works by physically dampening vibrations versus blocking sound waves. Think of touching just one finger on a guitar string to mute it versus getting more along the string. More does quiet it down but just one is already doing lots of work by itself.

If you are putting the sound deading on the inner side of the door skin, then do it before the fluid film. It won't stick to anything oily.

The interior comes apart and goes back together pretty quickly, but it helps to have replacement door panel and sail panel clips handy. Prepping the surface and cutting the material to shape takes the longest. I applied it over a few weekends here and there when I had time, but only really need to set aside a couple of hours if you are familiar with installing deadening.

I noticed the biggest difference from doing the back wall and the floor under the rear storage compartment, but the doors and inside/outside of the front wheel wells helped also.

IIRC the front doors took 3.5 sheets and the rear doors took 2.5-3 of the Second Skin sheets. I think the rear wall took 4-5 and under the seat storage took about 3. I was able to apply full sheets almost everywhere with some trimming for behind the rear seats.

Some install pics in my thread if you want to see what you're getting into (continuing thru page 5): https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/drizzohs-21-off-road-build.748190/page-2#post-26883689

It moves pretty quick. I used a garage heater to warm the sheets and make them more easy to shape.
Will probably take you longer removing parts like motors, panels, seats etc than actually putting in the material.
    Don't forget the headliner!
