Fresh, clean air. Except when the prevailing winds are blowing up from the Ohio steel mills, that is.

No. This is why a Canadian citizen buys Blue Cross health care coverage before heading over the border.

i dont know if they do this in other provinces but here in sask if you need some surgery done and we dont have the equipment, expertise or the wait time is too long they will send you out of province. our health care system in saskatchewan is getting better due to the boom here and our premier is doing a hell of job.

AFAIK they will only do this in Ontario, if the health issue needing treatment is life-threatening with delay.

Ontario - on top of taxes paid out as part of your income taxes, as well as portions allocated from Liquor, tobacco taxes, as well as some lottery ticket sales, there is a annual $900.00 premium calculated on top of your annual income tax assessed.

Ontario at least, also has very high (relatively speaking) automobile insurance. A goodly portion of that goes towards health care in case of an accident - in case of a motor vehicle accident - the insurance company pays the provincial health care system (in this case OHIP, for Ontario) a lump sum in the 100's of millions per year for advanced coverage based on risk table assessments.

Unless you have private insurance, or coverage under your employer - all prescription drugs are payable out of pocket, like in the US.

No. You would be billed and/or sent home ASAP if it got too expensive.

that kinda sucks. we don't pay anything on top of our taxes. sgi (saskatchewan government insurance) has very low costs especially for a teenager. we also get any sort of rehab or physio paid for if in a car accident. some people have to pay for drugs but there are many ways you dont have to.

With our expensive auto insurance, if rehab/physio is required, the insurance co. picks up the tab. There have been reforms since Sept. 2010 to limit those for cost savings on insurance premiums, however.

Ontario is no-fault, private auto insurance. Saskatchewan is no-fault, government run auto insurance, no? Two different systems.

I'm in my 40's.. clean driving record - best insurance rate to be found with $1,000,000 liability, collision, and health care benefits - $1700 and change for the Tacoma. It was $1900 for the Yaris.

Motorcycle insurance is becoming stupid expensive, and has been stupid expensive for some time now, for the youngin's.

As for the drug costs - if you are on social assistance - *i think* there is a basic drug plan that is funded for, but not sure. Good luck if you have a complex illness with a need for lots of expensive medications not listed. Never been there, myself.
