quick oil filter question for 4.0L

Will the Mobil m1-209 give better oil flow than the

$17 M1-102 / M1-102A Extended Performance Oil Filter

M1-102? I am 1000+ per week driving off road so I want the best (I can afford).

 

I don't see how oil flow has to do with the size of the filter. They both should flow at the same rate. I think the reason why people use a larger filter is to have better filtering capabilities rather than a better flow rate.... just my 2 cents.

 

I use the OEM filter that made from Japan, the best filter out there
they are rare thou. I had to order it from a dealer in VA. $10 a filter

 

His opinion is right. Have you looked at the original filter?

 

I've always used genuine toyota filters on both my pickups. Although I can find one easier then this mobil M1-209? I would like to find one of them tho just to see what the insides look like.

^^ just like that yea! thanks for the info man. It looks like the toyota filter had the most filter area, too bad they didn't test the M1-209. Synthetic filter media makes sense, especially if your using syn. oil. I'll have to look around and see if I can find one for the next filter change!

 

This was more my question. I am not a Fram type of guy because I don't really want something that I can only buy at Wally world and that is all they had at wally world. I chose the mobil1 M1-201 that is spec-d but just wanted to know about performance, i.e. oil flow. I did a search and found a lot of people saying that one is bettter than the other blah, blah, blah, but never why. I don't think anyone can really see the difference but I may use the larger next time because, as humanoid said, filtering capabilities. My 1000+ miles is usually 400-500 off road through a lot of silt and loose shit and I would like to keep my changes down to once a month (3000-4000miles). And I am not going to order a filter.

Even the smaller YZZD1 has WAY more filter area than any of the others. I think many of us are using the larger YZZD3.

 

The Lexus V8 filters will work too, they are the larger/longer ones than the OEM Taco ones.

 

word up dawg, I got 3 of those 90915 20004 filters from this toyota dealers in richmond, va. I found out they had because someone here on the tacoma world told me. anyway, they were like $11 a filter plus the shipping was like $5
I wanted more filters but that's all they had, they said I can order more from Japan, but it will take a while!

i got them in like 2 days!! Hopefully I get a flute weather where it gets in the 50's so i can change oil!!

Yeah, but the price isn't cool. For the amount of money you pay for that filter and have to buy the chemicals to clean it and the time spent doing it, I can buy a crap load of OEM filters for the life of a truck. Not worth it IMO.

Pure one for me, i run mobil 1 syntec, but i am thinking of going with royal purple next.

 

I had an old ford I would change the oil every 3.5 weeks just by adding what was burned off every week. But for me it's new oil, new filter.
