Re gearing schooling

    Hello all. Since the 1st gen is up and running with the S.C. installed. I'm going to re gear the rear diff. I'm running 34.6X12.5X16s. I'm looking for balanced gas and power but leaning more to power. I've got the weighted flywheel installed and the reduced weight crankshaft pulley. And can already tell a huge difference with the two. I need to know what size gear I should get. Is it a 8" housing, 30 spline? It's an oem locking diff. I'm looking at the Yukon gear store on Amazon but I'm confused on what exactly I need to buy to do the entire job right?

    Probably 5.29s, especially if you have an auto trans.

    Before I added the SC I was regretting having 4.88s with the auto and 33s, and wishing I had 5.29s. Since adding the SC with the Haltech I am feeling better about the 4.88s. Some of that is likely because the Haltech adds so much low end torque it makes the 4.88s very driveable.

    The trucks weight also plays a role here. Mine is pretty heavy at 5800 lbs when loaded up for an adventure.

    You sound inexperienced, and should get someone to install it for you. Reach to East Coast Gear Supply to have them build the pumpkins for you, then have your local shop install it.

    You can get that from lc engineering. And one other company makes it as well

    Setting up gears is not a shade-tree mechanic job. There are specialized tools required for the job, it’s not a job even an educated mechanic would take on without knowledge or the tools required, which is why there are shops who only do differential work. Getting it wrong is highly likely if you don’t know what you’re doing and the cost of doing it wrong is not only doing the job twice but likely buying parts all over again, especially ring and pinion if you don’t break them in properly

    Setting gears takes many tries to master. Believe me, you want someone that has done it many times before to set your gears. Setting gears is not a job you want to do more than once.

    As someone that tackled gears myself without any experience, absolutely pay someone to do that job.
    Mine have about 7k on them no issue but the amount of stress I put on myself with that job was absolutely not worth it lol. The money I spent on tools I couldve had a 3rd member from ECGS
