You can mean whatever you want to mean as bad as you want to mean it. It still won't guarantee lifter failure on every single Chevy truck sold.

I don't think that was the implication. It was just a statement that the power is pointless when a lifter fails. That is by no means a declaration that all the engines will suffer from lifter failure, but the fact that there is an ongoing lawsuit and pressure for a recall means that the percentage of engines having the failures is more than minimal.

I understand that. But it sounded to me as though he was alluding to the idea that every single Chevy truck has lifter failure occur. Which just isn't the case. I'm sure there is a significant portion of those trucks that may have lifter failure. But that doesn't mean every single truck will. So when he said the power is useless when there is lifter failure, I corrected him in the sense that sure, if lifter failure occurs then the power becomes useless, but that is only if. Its not a guaranteed "when" the failure occurs.

And this was all in response to someone thinking I was claiming a 5.3 Chevy engine has more power than a 5.3 Toyota engine or something along those lines which wasn't the case at all. I never said specific Chevy engines have more power than specific Toyota engines of the same caliber. I just meant Chevy offers more choices for more power with different engine options on different trucks than what Toyota may offer.

Nope, I fully expect every GM engine with cylinder deactivation to have a lifter related failure at some point in its life. Will they all be at 0 miles like some trucks are having? No they won't, but the system is fundamentally flawed and there is no way to get away from that. Makes me think its a deliberate attempt to make trucks last less time to boost sales.

$2700 worth of lifter/needle bearing related work on the 3.6 Pentastar in my 2013 JKRU after a few months of listening to a ticking (literal) time bomb made me sell my Mopar product for a Tacoma last year.

https://www.classaction.org/news/hearing-a-ticking-noise-fca-hit-with-class-action-over-alleged-3.6l-pentastar-v6-engine-problems#:~:text=According to the complaint, the,and eventually catastrophic engine failure.

GM and Mopar are definitely both in the same category in my personal experience as far as reliability goes; that is to say they aren't.

Your gigantic pickup truck may tell more about you than you think. (Not in a good way.) - Miami Herald
    https://apple.news/AFmymqJxATL6cZ58Rb9Ddmg

“Every time, my sister-in-law would roll her eyes as the pickup disappeared into the distance. She’d hold up a hand, the thumb an inch from the forefinger.

“The bigger the truck, the smaller the …” she’d say.

… she never finished that sentence, but she didn’t need to. To her, an oversized truck combined with an overly aggressive driver revealed more than the driver realized: a major insecurity about his manhood. The bigger and louder the pickup, the more dire the lack for which the driver was compensating.

It turns out my sister-in-law was even more correct than I realized.
    ….

A Dodge Ram TV ad declares, “A man will ask a lot of his truck. Can it tow that? Haul this? Make it all the way over the top of that? Well, isn’t it nice to know that the answer will always be: Hell, yes!”

Waldman said, “That imagery is meant to evoke a kind of manhood that embodies self-reliance, competence, mastery over the environment and a physicality most men have no need for in their day-to-day lives.”

Indeed, a lot of trucks now are luxury vehicles. Front ends keep getting bigger and bigger and the cabs get roomier and roomier, even as the beds — the business part that hauls stuff — get shorter and shorter. Pickups have bucket seats and state-of-the-art sound systems. F-150s can sell for $100,000.

Every time I see one of these "Should I buy" links I think to myself you bought a Tacoma for a reason why do you want to take a chance on anything else? I like a lot of the other trucks that are out there as well, but I won't waste any more money buying them. If your Tacoma doesn't meet your needs any more then buy a Tundra. I am no fan of Toyotas customer service, but Toyota still builds the best reliable longest lasting trucks out there.
If you buy a Gladiator or Silverado where do you think you will be when it rolls 60000 miles? I was trading mine in.

I have a DCLB and I can fit 3 bikes if needed and 2 bikes with no issues. Even shut the tailgate with one bike kicked sideways. I've worked as a mechanic for years. I've worked for independent shops and have had 1000's of chevy 5.3's in and out. I can count on one hand the number of Tacoma's and NON with engine issues.

Failed lifters is real. My mechanic cousin fixes this out of his garage as his weekend gig. Makes a bundle on labor and he says he can do it fast from doing it so often.

    A few.
Current fullsized trucks are basically large luxury sedans with a bed and higher ride height. They have become feminised imo and have lost a lot of the ruggedness of old.

So this proves that truly, a lot of people are idiots. To actually think a big truck equates an small dick indicates your mental ability.

I just think the OP is trying to get people to talk him out of making a back choice. If you spend the time to write a post, you are trying to talk yourself out of something you already know is dumb.

It's not just Toyota it's all manufacturers. The new Tundra compared to the 2nd gen Tundra is the best example. Compare the trucks side by side.
