Been following this since mid summer. Looks like a decent camper item that doesn't weigh too much and the price is low since it's early production. They recently did a drive around show and tell kinda deal. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it, but seeing IG stories make it seem like a legit product and not a cash grab. Was really hoping to see it in person, but whatever.

Reservations open tomorrow, 11/22/2022. Last week it was about $6k to reserve a build spot and get it around June/July 2023. "Fully Refundable" but everyone knows how that goes. I guess use a credit card if you're going through with it.

I'm interested to see what a final price would be after a few options and accessories. The weight and interior space are very appealing. I could wait until next summer too and use my current rtt setup until then. Was hoping to get a shell/canopy tent by July/August for a cool road trip anyway.

Anyway, I haven't seen a thread on these yet. Hope these are worth it and only positive reviews come out.

 

I really like the PVC (or whatever it is) coating on the top of the 'rain fly'. Even water replant tent fabric tends to get damp after a full night of rain

That's how I'm feeling. Curious what options will be available and prices. Haven't seen much updates on IG other than last week. Not a big deal since it's Thanksgiving week though

Anyone jump on this? I'm super tempted because of the price, but that's also the thing that has me hesitating. I'd been planning on saving up for a Super Pacific X1 and now here comes this thing at literally half the price (or less). I know it won't compete with the X1 in terms of total quality, but even if it comes close to like the GFC then it's a big deal.

 

I was about to jump, but right now it's only a 10' bed up top. I have a long bed, access cab and measured that....the overhang would just be too much for my liking. Guess I'm back to planning to build my own DIY again.

 

That’s currently my hangup. I have a DCSB so I think the overhang would be about the same for me and it would be over my sunroof. It just seems really far.

 

Yea, I measured it out to see if I could live with the look, and I just can't. I love my truck and the way it looks, I couldn't bring myself to do it.

 

Would it compare to the superpacific?

 

No. The SuperPacific has moveable panels to allow you to pass between the top and bottom so it doesn’t need to maintain a gap. The Lone Peak camper keeps a 32” gap open at all times so it has to be at least 32” longer.

 

I took a chance and went in on it. My rationale is that I was looking at doing a Ripcord build, but for the amount spent in time, labor, and parts, on top of the fact that my welding skills are marginal/ poor, it seemed worth the $5K to take the chance once I met Kyle and put my hands on the prototype. Definitely better than anything I was going to do in my garage. The overhang is a concern he is looking into. I'm not an engineer, so I do not know the torsional/ shear/ whatever forces at play here, but for my intended use (get the family out to more remote and pretty campsites in Colorado) this should fit the bill. Additionally, I've found Lone Peak to be pretty upfront about design changes and issues that came up during the shakedown. I've reached out to them directly and have always gotten timely and meaningful answers back. If I'm being honest, though, I think I just got bit by the FOMO bug. The last time I was in this situation, it was during the iKamper Kickstarter, and I thought 2 grand was too steep for a RTT. Maybe I found my next remote-work-from-the-mountain office, maybe I just made a $5,000 mistake. Either way, I'll let you guys know how it goes.

 

Please do. I have high hopes for it. I was very close to pulling the trigger but I decided against when I posted a question about the overhand as a reply to their launch post and he deleted it. Didn’t feel right.

 

All of the folks who signed up as brand ambassadors are in a slack chat and it's been brought up. There were absolutely no issues on the shakedown in regards to the overhang. Their position is that the main extrude is more than strong enough. They even went as far as looking into adding supports just to make folks feel better. Out of curiosity, what would assuage folks concerns here? A YouTube stress test, a mechanics of materials study? Not being facetious, I want to help Kyle & Co. be more responsive to current and future customers.

 

Seeing a mock-up of the overhang on common midsize trucks would help. What it looks like with and without a roof rack (how much gap, etc). I’m actually less worried about structural support than looks, but obviously support is #1. But also at this point it kind of doesn’t matter. Now that I’m past the sale period it’s the same cost as a GFC (with how I would want it configured) so I might as well wait for V2 or to see it in the real world.

 

It does look really good. I like that it is made locally. (about 2.5 hour drive)
However it is pretty spendy. Even then, I'll keep it in mind as a solid option.

After some research, I am retracting my comment about it being spendy.
It seems that the price is in the mid-average range for what it is even with the add-ons.

Don’t know if you guys have seen this yet. Folks have been asking about the strength of the overhang. In response, Lone Peak is working on sourcing a lighter, more resilient extrusion for the main frame. Results look promising.

 

I just wanted to add to what was stated before. I think overall the design is super solid and functional. I am an engineer myself and am not worried about strength of overhang, but I would appreciate options at this price point. I have an access cab, long bed Tacoma. Literally the only thing that stopped me from ordering from this company was the look of the overhang on my truck (guessing from measurements I took), which is my pride and joy. I have built it myself in my driveway and take great pride in how it looks. My decision was based solely on the fact that for about the same price (maybe a little less) I can build my own that looks like it fits my truck better than such a long tent on top. I'll be watching this company for updates though. I love the features here!
