Probably designed as some bullshit safety requirement so you don’t hit little Timmy when he runs out in the street after his ball.

It's not cost effective at $75 for a partial charge. My time is worth something to me. I wouldn't have bothered, but the horseback riding looked fun.

I was driving next to one of the Rivian Amazon vans on the highway tonight. They look even more goofy in person. Also why do EV designers feel the need to add so many damn lights? The edge of the entire truck box is one giant taillight.

I'll give you it has higher towing capacity for sure, but that will have to be confirmed, I think I've seen one in shreveport though so they're out. as to lower costs...until you gotta change them batteries, ok but seriously depending on the vehicle it can range from 4000 to 20000 and the rivian batteries are expected to last about 8 years...average yearly mileage is 12k (I drive about 2-3x's that myself) and if you use synthetic that's one oil change a year then (I use amsoil so I get to go 25k but mobile/castrol full synthetic are 15k), with a filter change and top off at 5-7k ($8 for quart, $12 for filter), plus an engine air filter once a year ($15) (you'd still have to change diff fluid I'd imagine so we won't include that) so 520 over 8 years if you do it yourself? probably leaving something out, oh yeah, coolant and trans, but those are synthetic and good for 90k so won't include that either.
*edit added* oh duh, cost of gas, shoot that might be where the real price difference is...I'm not going to figure that one out
    /edit
still seems less than replacing batteries every 8 years :\ *maybe not with gas factored in
(mf'ing brain won't shut up now...ok so 32.4 fill ups a year at 370 miles a tank and 12k average miles a year, $40-43 last year about in my area per tank *knew I had something wrong*, over 8 years...shite...11,156 just for gas...11676.75 for oil change/gas...could be less, could be more, could be equal to battery change...depends what rivians cost. Got Dandruff and it itches that's a lot of money...damn and I drive 2-3x's the national average *passes out, well that's where all my money goes XD )
**duh ev's wouldn't have differentials *facepalm, not figuring that

will it hold up off road though, I don't think it would but hey maybe it will, but it's reliability is unproven and honestly, it's a baaaad idea to buy the first model especially of a new make no matter who makes it. first model corolla's and camry's are notorious for minor interior and serpentine belt type issues. always wait a few years ;)

that towing capacity is pretty nice, tacoma's max is like 6800 (tow package). Granted not f250/chevy 2500 range but for a small truck impressive.

for range 400 miles no tow, 144 while towing. Not sure what I get total while towing but when I towed a car on a flat trailer I was getting 12-13 highway. I get maybe 370 miles on a tank of gas in my tacoma (not towing) and the camry a little more, maybe a charge every couple days if not towing for me, not bad, most folks live 30min from work so a charge would last you much longer. Looks wise...well that's all subjective so if you like it *shrug

price is always the kicker for me on ev, rivian starts at 69k which will likely get you the 7700 towing max (900 more than the tacoma), then up to 80-85k which I guarantee is what the 11000 towing capacity one will run. but that higher towing capacity on the base model is nice, I mean not bad for an electric really, and if it's really nice inside and not cloth interior and cheapo dash and has a good sound system. I mean a HIGH end f250/2500 would cost the same as the base model (course the ford/chevy base models start around 43k) but then you gotta pay for diesel and oil changes and filters so if you only needed to tow up to 7700. Otherwise depending on how low you can get the 11000 towing for. still an awful lot of money just for "electric" bragging rights, not that anyone cares XD maintenance isn't that much really, especially if you use synthetics...replacing those batteries is a big kicker too, out costs maintenance costs, even if you pay for someone to do it.

to each their own, gas always made more sense for me, (*course looking at my gas/oil change figures...it might not anymore! even with new payments!)maybe not for you. may the vehicle gods ever show you favor, no matter the choice.

I can’t believe that the Canoo van is actually being manufactured. It reminds me of the car from the latest Vacation movie.

They both need more real wood paneling.

There are actually some cool things engineered into the vehicle. Supposedly the drive train can be replaced in just a couple hours and the entire body can be swapped for a different style like a pickup.

The batteries don't need to be replaced after 8 years. The batteries are warranted to lose less than 30% of their capacity after 8 years. The R1T batteries allow 314 miles (EPA) so after 8 years the truck is warrantied to have a minimum of 220 miles of range.

Teslas also have an 8 year battery warranty; it is a govt. mandate. Taking the loss of range that most Tesla owners have experienced as a starting point, most Tesla owners see a loss of 10% after 200,000 miles. Translated to the Rivian that would mean after 200,000 miles the truck would still have 288 miles of range; nowhere near requiring a battery replacement.

Seems like Rivian has understated the battery capacity on the 135kW pack too.

How do you think spent EV batteries will be disposed of?

I'm thinking they will packed into a rocket and shot into space. Bad as that sounds it will probably be the best thing for the environment.

RJ (Rivian CEO) has stated that they are planning to remove them from trucks and use them as home packs (ex. for solar) since although they aren't useable in the truck they still have plenty of capacity for solar and other renewable energy usage.
