Do you believe that the quality and expected lifespan of a new Tacoma is as good as earlier model years?

No. They’re more complicated than ever and Toyota isn’t the quality hound it once was.

They are much more reliable. People don't buy a lot of things that break easy.

    few things here and there.
Personally? Quality of life is better, longevity is still to be determined.

Those 4.0 v6’s were something special.

it may be too early to tell how reliable they are vs. prior generations. it will take at least another few years until more of them have miles racked up.

i will say relative to a 1st gen toyota truck i owned, an '09 camry we still own, as well as cars and trucks over the years from other manufacturers, the fit and finish on my turd gen is one of the worst. the squeaks and rattles from the access cab door panels and dash drove me nuts. i pulled the access cab door panels off to fix some of it and can't remember having to do that on another vehicle. i recall owning a second gen S10 chevy blazer for a brief period that was about as bad.

fingers crossed the drivetrain is reliable but i am considering purchasing an extended warranty which i have never done before.

are you considering trading your 2022 Frontier in on an older truck?

No, I am just trying to assess if and to what extent the reliability of the Tacoma has changed over the years. I wish there was a way to do the same for the Nissan. Is that Tacoma 85% as good now as in say 2005? Is the Frontier 50% as good during the same timeframe? Those are the kinds of questions I am asking myself.

Mobil1 beanie should arrive any day now...
Just based on the eye and ear test...

I'd say that my '23 Tacoma's build quality is just behind my '97 Land Cruiser, on par with my '94 pickup, and just ahead of my wife's former 2004 Lexus ES 330. That's not really speaking to the quality of parts, just how well the parts are put together. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm still waiting to see how a couple of the plastic parts under the hood hold up over time...

Speaking from my experience, mine’s been mechanically flawless for 70k miles.

Dash squeaks just a bit, but I’ve had it apart half a dozen times for sure with my electronic upgrades.

I’ve towed hard with it a few times and daily commute at 80mph.

I expect it to go at least 200k without issues at this point.

    One man’s experience. :)

More complicated than ever? 3rd gen Toyota is ancient compared to other trucks.

I was positively giddy when I found out the '20 had a powered driver's seat. Which every other car has had for the last 30 years.

The carpet in them both look like the same low grade materials.
