Sounds like a good idea, if it works. That will probably be outlawed, and aren't the batteries still highly toxic? I've heard of the current home solar batteries giving of toxic gasses when they malfunction. I can't recall what gas it is.

That would be pretty dumb, they’re full of useful materials. I suspect recycling technology will catch up.

Much higher concentration of battery material.

I dunno, I honestly don't know it's not something I pay attention to. The way materials are recycled today I wouldn't count on any great recycling methods. China will have their own batteries to recycle, they probably wont want to buy anybody's used batteries.

It’s all about the money. Once it becomes expensive enough to mine raw materials, recycling will be inevitable. There’s things like nickel and cobalt in batteries which will make them desirable, never mind the lithium itself. Whoever gets that process right will be sitting on a gold mine.

It’s a different scenario than plastics, where we just assume we can pump more oil out of the ground to make new ones so we just make cheap plastic and dump it after a single use.

At a cost of only $1200/pound to launch into low earth orbit, and not even into deep space, this might be your dumbest idea yet.

It's not my dumb idea. Dumb ideas catch on all the time, and when the right people endorse dumb ideas. Those ideas become good ideas.

Dumb ideas become good ideas when they are proven to be good not because someone says they are good.

A Rivian 135kWh battery pack weighs 1750 pounds so the cost of getting that into low earth orbit is $2.1M. You are going to need to get the cost way down to make this dumb idea a good idea just from the financial standpoint.

…and no more toxic than oil exploration, oil spills, ground water contamination from oil drilling and gas refining, burning yet more diesel for gas and motor oil distribution, fuel leaks at stations, gas vapors, and on.

Tesla launched a roadster into space. That was a dumb idea that didn't sound like a good idea from a financial standpoint.

You sleep in a house don't you? Lithium batteries can malfunction and emit sulfur dioxide into the home. Sulfur dioxide in the air outside is not good for you. Having a higher concentration of SO2 in the home can't be good for your health.

You don’t mount the battery inside the house. And cars can emit cancer causing fuel vapors. It’s fine. Jesus Christ dude

Don't bother with him. He admits to making up stuff to troll this thread. He's slept on too many batteries I think.

People have mounted solar batteries in the house, or places where the SO2 made its way into the house. Look it up it's happened before.

Yes..... and lithium ion batteries don't emit SO2 (that's lead acid batteries).

Elon Musk can afford the $2M to launch a vehicle into space. Also, he gets that employee discount at SpaceX.

Are people using lead acid batteries in home solar? I don't want type of battery was being used, but the batteries over heated and produced sufur dioxide gas.

This is cool, I don't know about alloy wheels on a military truck.
