Has anyone had problems after installing the A/C drain mod?

I think the real curiosity is why does the passenger side on not just Tacomas but also 4Runners/120 platform trucks rust out faster for those vehicles that have the worst showing of rust. It’s a common theme. The only real difference on that side is the A/C drain and the proximity to the bulk of the exhaust system. A rusted out 4th Gen 4Runner I bought had it worse than anywhere else in that region near the body mount. An otherwise pristine GX470 I recently sold had rust formed inside the frame in the same spot, nothing on driver side. These vehicles did not come from factory with the plastic frame hole covers like they do now.

I‘m not really arguing for or against but it’s not entirely idiotic to install a couple bucks worth of box store hose and a cheapo coupler when there is a pattern. Maybe spending $50+ on a special made kit is a little silly.

I had a small issue when I first installed it because I pulled it too tight and basically crimped it off. After noticing this I fixed it and no worries since then.

Maybe its just the way water abrasion attacks the chassis on the passenger side when on wet roads, idk

Thanks everyone for you input. You probably could tell from my question that I was interested in whether doing the A/C drain mod could cause other problems. You have given me some things to think about. Thanks for responding.

It's been on my to do list for 5+ years. I've never gotten around to it and my frame is fine, rust free. :notsure:

I read about this mod, looked at the area, said screw it. I dont use A/C much tho. I like the 460 type of AC.... 4 windows down, go 60 mph...:D

Edit...I guess its 560 type now with the rear open too.

Good to know its a problem free mod for those of you who need it in super hot areas.

No - the garage floor or parking spot gets a small water puddle so it's doing its job.

Been a few years and I’ve had no issues. For those saying the frame gets wet with rain anyway- that’s true. But something about HVAC condensate seems to be extra corrosive from my experience repairing air conditioners. It cost like $3 and 5mins of time so it really doesn’t matter if it’s all for nothing.

I simply like driving with the windows down...
Unless it's raining, or I am dressed to the nines, I am driving with the windows open. Even in the winter, I like to crack the windows...

Yeah, but my truck belly is wet 9+month out of year plus we run a/c in the summer and those 9+ month to defogger the windows.
Salt is the problem , not the a/c dripping.
Here is 5 years of dripping on the frame

Any time you use defrost mode, it will drip whether you use AC or not.
