Could just cover the moon in solar panels and send the energy back to earth using a laser beam.

Why didn’t you suggest putting them all on the dark side of the moon? That seems more in line with your thinking.

Well that's good to know! I tell ya when ev first came out the range was a joke...but yeah these latest models the cheap ones get almost 300 and the little more expensive ones 400. That's a tank of gas for me, and driving as much as I do that would be a charge every two days. If I only worked 30min from home that would be one charge every nearly 9 days, that's not bad at all.

For me an ev WOULD seem to make sense even if I had to buy one that was 50k, which even if it only got 300 miles per charge that's still a charge every day and a half, if I worked 30 min from home that'd be 7.5 days...damn that's cool. I forgot to include diff changes (ev's don't have diffs), GAS, and factor in oil changes/air filters, coolant changes...yeah even making payments on an ev I'd still come out cheaper. I am looking at a job closer to home right now and even if I get it...I might still consider it.

I don't see them as environmentally friendly considering the toxic materials actually used in manufacturing...honestly I'm not concerned with the environmental impacts...I'm all about it saving me money in the long run.

With the improved mileage my only concern now is reliability and longevity. I mean, almost every toyota and honda are renowned and well known to EASILY last 300-400k miles with NO major repairs...can't say that of ev's because, well, mainly they haven't been around long enough. Each new model is almost a totally new make/model even. They make so many improvements each model. And I try to not judge by the earlier ones but they were pretty garbage. And some, like tesla, the interiors are actually pretty bland...everything on a giant screen...it's horrible looking. aaaand you can't do things like, change the head unit, upgrade the speakers, because EVERYTHING is tied into the electronics of the car, not sure I like that.

Saw some pics of the rivian trucks interior, gotta say it's not bad! leagues above the tesla's I saw. and honestly...it's outward looks are kinda growing on me! I mean I thought the 3rd gen tacoma looked like it had a pig nose and underbite when I first saw it XD but I grew to love how it looks pretty quickly. but aesthetics aside, something like that rivian truck WOULD be great...more towing/hauling than the tacoma and I like functionality and being in a TRUCK...damn in my camry I feel like carollas are about to run over me! but similar in size to the tacoma, saving in gas/maintenance being an ev, good range...it's just that issue of...will it last? Seems like it would, especially since I buy offroad models to drive on the road specifically because they might be built tougher??

Also keep in mind...rivian is a startup, and their stock is falling while they are raising their prices. I'll have to pass on it...I mean...the other issue with ev...where do you get it worked on? dealer only. IF you need repairs in 10-20 years...is rivian even going to be around, so where would you get it worked on? I would have to find a mechanic that could work on ev, that would require driving/towing to a big city, an hour from my house...I doubt the small cities close by would have a non-stealership, ev mechanic. So many unknowns...guess that's why I can't pull the trigger. Guess I could go with a nissan or one of the other major manufacturers ev's...there are some that don't look horrendous, just no trucks :( guess it's still gas power for me

I hear that the Rivian comes with a heated tailgate. It’s to keep your hands warm while you’re pushing it home.

... yes. SO2 is the 'acid' part of lead acid, and not involved with lithium batteries.

People use lead acid for home solar because it's cheaper per kWh of storage and mass doesn't matter in your house.

You’d think pushing 7000lbs would be enough to warm up everything, including your hands.

Current cost per mile on my R1T is $0.07/mile. That is almost as good as my 250cc dual sport motorcycle at $0.06/mile and less than my BMW R1250 at $0.09/mile, Tacoma at $0.30/mile and TRX at $0.42/mile.

More smiles per mile than the Tacoma and less than the TRX?

Yes and no. Definitely better all around than the Tacoma but kind of soulless compared to the TRX. It’s stupid fast but not as fun when accelerating because it’s so boringly efficient at it. The size of the R1T is a far better daily driver truck though.

I found the R1T interior to be really nicely laid out too. Feels spacious and refined compared to our cramped Tacomas. The size really is perfect except for the shorty bed length and lack of camper shell options being a deal breaker for me currently. Oh, and the price too. But they're great trucks, the Rivians.

A camper shell would unfortunately have to have a complex formed front end due to the roof and side spoiler things on the Rivian. I’m sure someone will make one and price it to match.

I think Rivian may be working on one. A friend that works there said as much. But yeah, I'm sure it won't be cheap!

Nice! In about 12 years you will have saved the $40K price difference between the Rivian and Tacoma.

Yeah, there’s no real argument that spending an additional 50% upfront will result in saving money in the short term. I didn’t expect to do so though so it’s not a factor for me. Between two comparably priced trucks like the TRX it could be considered a valid argument for buying an electric truck. Especially when the Rivian is actually coming out about $10k cheaper than the TRX after the tax credit.

I'm not to big of a fan of the look of these. To me the their look seems lonely! like they want to make friends but are just very socially not capable.
