Removed my factory installed tonneau cover today for the first time and found this damage under the front panel. Looks like someone missed the bolt hole on the first try while assembling. Doesnt look like any damage to the truck just the plastic. Trying to decide whether or not it's worth trying to get replaced.

    Oh look, another mod....

The hardest part would be: Proving they did it. They could say the damage was there before you brought it to them. Since you didn't catch it right after it was installed, it would be a losing argument. Just let it go.

Absolutely! That's some shady stuff. Call them out. These trucks cost too much to accept that BS.

I would bring it back and ask them to look at it. It will be hard to prove you didn’t do it, so I wouldn’t stay and fight long.

The toyota tonneau covers are installed at the factory not the dealer, almost looks like someone was trying to pry it open.

This...if they "missed" during assembly, there would be a round witness mark from the bolt. That damage is from someone trying to pry it open.

If the dealership installed the Tonneau cover, then absolutely I would bring it to they attention. You'll lose sleep over it, but they won't, either way!

The good news is that the rail caps are relatively cheap.

IME, one thing is certain, the dealer will do nothing if you don't ask. If they deny you, oh well. Can't hurt to ask.

Seems like if it was someone trying to pry it open, the damage would be from the 'outside of the bed side' rather than from the 'inside of the bed side'.

(Unless they were prying from inside the bed for some reason)

If your dealer is anything like mine you’ll have new damage when they give it back.

No damage to the tonneau cover itself?

I highly doubt that. No accessories are installed at the factory/assembly plant. Not even floor mats, believe it or not.

Most accessories are installed at the "port," aka the distributor that sells to dealers. Yes, there are two middle-men between the factory and the consumer. What a wonderful world we live in. :cookiemonster: And if it wasn't installed at the port, it was installed by the dealer. Everyone wants their piece of the inflated cookie.

Nobody tried to pry it open. The rest of the plastic and weather seal are all in perfect shape.

I took a closer look at the cover and this thing is jacked up which explains how it got damaged when it was bolted down.

Leaving my nice Tacoma at the dealership so the locals can drive it to lunch or whatever else, no thanks. If it was a high dollar warranty repair, yes.
