everyone one here brings a valid opinions and reasons. In my opinion you have a solid truck, sure the parking pawl is part of the transmission and it slightly more work to get fixed , but at least Nissan is addressing it.
I would keep your truck , and not waist 14 months of payments down the drain

It's the infancy. In two years there will be faster charging, bigger batteries and more chargers. You're not getting much more out of a gas truck towing either.

My buddies trd or never saw anything other than a dirt road once in awhile to my home till he traded it in. He's now very happy with his pro4x frontier as its able to climb over mall parking space curbs without any issue....claims his nissan does everything better than his trd did.

For that use case, I am sure it would be a better choice. Deep mud, snow, or sandy/dirt hills will be easier for a TRD Pro. Not saying the Nissan won't do it, but the Toyota will do it easier. I love the Frontier, and really really wanted one. Might have got one if I could have ever found one to test drive, but they were all spoken for and marked up. It closed the price gap on the TRD Pro to the point that I'd rather have it at MSRP than the Frontier with a mark up.

Isn't the Pro 4 X Nissans top off road capable trim? It would not have mattered too much if they compered it to a OR...They pretty much have the same things going on especially in all the circumstances they put the truck in on that video.

Must be a Nissan thing - same thing happened with my son's driver's side window in his 2011 Maxima. I've read that the previous Frontier generation V6 (as a majority of them are) had a somewhat common (along with the Pathfinder) situation where I believe coolant would mix with the transmission fluid, a defect with the radiator.

UPDATE: So, I had a few hours to kill today and decided I was gonna make a decision and stick with it, I can always revisit the issue later on if I am having additional problems. Fortunately the Toyota dealer a town away from me had pretty much the perfect Tacoma in stock, so if I decided to switch today was the day.

I test drove the TRD Sport 4x4 and my experience inside was much better than the one I sat in last week. It had all the features I felt I needed plus a few. I liked the way it drove, but did notice that it felt very sluggish on the interstate, especially on the on-ramp and getting up to speed. Other than that I really liked the driving experience. The cabin does seem a little more cluttered and less clean and intuitive than the Frontier, it is certainly a button rich environment! However, I think I would get used to it quickly and not mind it at all. I am still not crazy about the bed and cargo management rails. The only thing I didn't mind at all was the seating position, I am really not sure why it gets so many complaints.

Overall I think the Tacoma is a great truck, I might consider one in the future, but for right now it doesn't seem to offer enough "WOW" for me to switch.

I am going to get the issues addressed on the Frontier and go on enjoying that truck, so far it had done everything I've asked of it and never made me walk. Like the Tacoma, the size of the Frontier hits the sweet-spot for me. I can park it almost anywhere, haul anything I need to haul, get out in the snow and even go off road if the urge hits me.

I appreciate all of the responses to this thread, they have really helped me decide and I feel like I've made the smart choice.

Well thought out and reasoned. Can't argue with it.

One question, did you use the ECT button on the freeway? I haven't used it in mine, but I'm not comparing it to another midsize either, so IDK how much of a difference it actually makes.

Anyway, congrats on choosing a truck you like! Don't be a stranger just because you don't drive a Taco! Stick around and share pics of the Frontier and your adventures in it!

I asked the salesman what the ECT button was for, he told me you only use it if you are towing. Is he incorrect?

They are trying to look like a Tacoma, which is better than GM and Ferd who are both trying to look like a shiny collection of small boxes hooked together.

Plus you saved a lot of money. The market is going back to normal and dealers aren’t paying stupid money for trade ins like they were plus you aren’t paying for fees and sales tax again. I think you made the right decision

Ooooh! It's in the nice green too! (Don't tell anyone but the frontier pulls off the Army Green color better than the Tundra!)

When you get around to making that decision again, drive the TRD OR, it handles different than the Sport. And yeah, you gotta step on the skinny pedal and let it rev to get anything out of it.

    How does the lighting work?

Can you turn off the DRL or is it always on when the truck is running?

Will the DRL shut off when the parking lamps are on?

Can you turn on the fog lights with out the head lights being on?

I do like the DRL it's like the fog light anytime mod for 2g Tacoma.

I wouldn't trade in a 2022 frontier that's paid off so I could be in debt on a 2023 tacoma. Maybe if you wanted to step up to a 1/2 ton or larger then it would make sense. Otherwise there's nothing to gain.

For what it's worth my '10 Pro-4x has been exceedingly reliable and still looks and drives as well as the day I bought it. The sole repair I've done so far was a weeping rear axle seal. No rust, fault codes, warning lights, weird noises or vibrations. It's had a hard life of work, towing and offroading yet has held up great.

I typically buy Toyota trucks but my '06 Tacoma SR5 was a let down. The recalls and TSBs were understandable as a newer platform. It had a lot of driveability issues and ultimately the frame was quite rusty well before any sort of recall was announced so I got rid of it.
