Here's a new one to me.. came home from work today and power went out..in half the house. My first thought was.. this isn't good.. noticed the street light in the alley was out too and the neighbor's also looked darker.. apparently 1 leg of a transformer failed down the alley? Weird AF to me!

Thank you guys very much. As some of you know, when you have an idea in your head that sounds great to you? It might only be great to you lol.
I am definitely not a professional woodworker. This is what I do to get away from the computer and hydraulic systems design and meetings. My shop is pure manual and hands are required for every process. I use my "Eye-cronometer" way too much but hey, it's fun.
So, thank you guys and I will show you my next project, a solid side table as it progresses. I build a lot of things in Greg's Garage!

Pretty common actually. Sometimes the splices will fail going into the house and you will lose a leg.

All kinds of weirdness happens then, a 240 device like a water heater will pass voltage through the heating element giving a low voltage on the dead side. There might be enough to light a bulb partly on the dead side and any 120 volt device on the other side works fine. Really messes with you the first time you get called for it.:confused:

Beautiful sunny 32* a outside and the tropical storm force winds appear to have stopped. Should be a nice day.

Found out Friday I'm going back to a team at work that I left in January. Three years of a new team that lost it's direction, had repeated promises of change and new work, to never materialize. Now we have a new director and he wants to change the way we do our work from old school rules to a form or data driven analysis. So yours truly appears to have a skill set and creds that are more limited now than before covid, and on paper it's a good match. Honestly not looking forward to going back to a computer in a windowless room to give input that will (historically) be ignored from work that I really like and have some successful results from.

And the locomotive build came to a screeching halt. Broke one part and glued it. Then used it to assemble the next step and put one part in the wrong place. I can partially disassemble it, but it's going to have to be cut and glued to make it right. So after the Christmas stuff is up and done, back to it.

Yes, I had this at a facility recently. Half of things was out. Even weirder, side by side breakers didn’t function (typically they alternate legs). PowerCo told them some fuse blew and $2K later it would be fixed… I haven’t followed up, since I got my equipment restarted on the “good leg”.

Luckily for me this was all on the power company's equipment so it didn't cost me a dime.. and luckily my refrigerator and furnace never lost power

Reference the poll on flying in helicopters, my uncle had two tours in Vietnam. First on he was a chopper pilot flying guys into and out of hot zones. Second one he flew an A-6 Intruder jet doing bombing runs, including Hanoi. That's where he was shot down and did 5+years as POW.

He once told me don't fly in helicopters, even though they are super fun. He said there are just too many moving parts to fail.

He later flew Harriers, which are really dangerous. Harriers don't tolerate mistakes.
