KDMax-Pro Tuning--NOW YotaWerx Tuning

I think I have said in other threads that KDMaxx likely convinced me to keep my truck. The gear hunting I had experienced, even on OVTune, was horrendous. My breaking point came during a camping trip to Maine, while going across the hills in Vermont.

I did start altering convertor behavior and shifting in VF, but was not willing to touch anything else, and even getting the above dialed in was extremely time consuming.

This summer, I did a month long trip to Montana on KDMaxx pro XT and was very glad I kept this truck. If I was 95% to selling it in Vermont, I would've been 200% there in Montana, before KDMaxx. On top of that, @PapaRee is extremely responsive and never seems bothered while I am frequently asking him to change a shift point by 2 mph.

I'm now on 9.0 lite with a couple lowered upshifts and couldn't be happier. After Vermont, my wife and I went and looked at and test drive some Tundras, but pumped the brakes. KDMaxx came out shortly after and eliminated my biggest complaints, so in my mind, this tune saved me about $45k!

I’m a bit on the fence about getting the remote license. Since the nearest tuner is 4 hours away I like the idea of being able to tinker with my tune whenever. But maybe I’ll just like the tune and not want to mess with it. If I get the pro tune now would I have the option of buying the license, cable, and tune pack files later on without paying the full $750 after paying ~$350 for the initial tune?

I put 35k miles per year on my 3rd gen. Sometimes in the city, often in the mountains, and a good amount of hauling. It would be sweet to be able to have different tunes ready to go based on the trip, but that would depend on difficulty of adjusting the tunes and I wouldn’t want to be in over my head.

 

Yes you can always purchase the remote kit anytime. The remote kit only allows you to flash the tune files to your truck. It does not allow access to make your own tune files. If your looking to make your own tune files you will need the VF Tuner Tuning Kit. If you buy the remote kit and Pro-9.0 tunepack you will be able to flash any 9.0 file or flash back to stock. If you pay to be tuned by an authorized KDMAX tuner and then purchase the remote kit later you will not have to pay full price for the 9.0 tunepack. Edgar was tuned last Dec of 2021 with the KDMAX-Pro tune. He recently had 5.29's installed on his 2020 OR. He heard we have the new Pro-9.0 and had to have it.
We got him all dialed in with his new gears with the Pro-9.0 with Normal throttle. He texted me shortly after he got out on the highway "Man this tune is so smooth i love it"

@Magiriano updated my tune after work from pro to 9. I was running sport throttle and had it set to lite this time around. Only drove it home in bumper to bumper traffic but so far so good. The true test will coming tm on my 4 hr highway trip cuz I was rarely seeing 6th. If this doesn't fix it to my liking rather than gears I might just trade it honestly. Coming from a Raptor and then a Bronco Wildtrak this isn't cutting it. Thanks Alex!

 

Well I tried getting my truck tuned tonight but kdmaxx doesn't have anything available for my truck when I was hoping to get the supported files loaded to tune it and nothing was possible wondering if anyone else with a second gen is having this issue.

 

Your truck was 89663-04333 and in the VFtuner software it is not supported. We have requested it and I requested it again tonight.
89663-04332 is supported in Vftuner, which is also a 2006 auto 4x4. So some 2006 trucks are supported.
Hopefully we can get your ECU supported.

 

Man I hope so really wanting to get the KDMAXX software loaded into my ECU I've heard nothing but great things about the software

Who os your tuning tech, we have files for the 06 Tacoma

 

PapaRee got it squared away. We only have support for one 06 ECU ID. The one in question is different and not supported in VFTuner.

 

@Stormpeacock Rich we did some digging into it last night and my ECU was the one that was in a red section

 

yea man, no one can make a tune for this ecu until the software developer gets us access! Hopefully the next update can include it

 

I got an email back from VFtuner and he says that he will add that ECU to the software as soon as possible.
We will let you know when it is available.

 

Thanks to everyone who came out for our remote tune day in Eugene, OR yesterday. Got a bunch of updates to V9 done, and a couple new trucks tuned. Everyone who has updated from an older version of KDMax to V9 has been very pleased. If you are on the fence about the update, do it!

Had the opportunity to tune Howard's brand new 2022 TRD Sport with only 300 miles on the odometer this morning. We got him set up with the KDMax Pro 9.0 with the lite throttle, which he said was perfect for him. Howard already loved his truck but wasn't thrilled about the hesitation and gear hunting. Glad we were able to fix that for you and thanks for the opportunity to make your Tacoma more fun to drive! Really nice looking truck with a great set-up!
