    The distance is physically shorter. The URD kit also removed the slop, side to side movement when shifting that is present with the stock shifter.

    This mod does nothing to make the Tacoma faster or improve gas mileage but the feel of the shifter when shifting is ratcheted up a couple of notches.

    I have it too but not scared to do the install....I'm just of the procrastinatin-lazy-got-higher-priorities-goin-on set. This project will soon be a high enough priority to get it's rightful attention. :D

    I am by no means a Tacoma expert. The instructions that came with the shifter are for an X Runner which only has 4 bolts holding the shifter housing on to the transmission. My base 2.7L transmission had 6 bolts.

    When I took off the console and shifter I really could not see the two bolts all the way in the back of the housing. I had to jack the truck up and get underneath the truck to remove the back two bolts.

    When I installed the spacer and longer bolts I had to install the 4 rear bolts of the housing from underneath the truck.

    This was not a big deal but it would have been nice if the instructions told me that my Tacoma had 6 bolts.

    Take your time and enjoy doing the work yourself.

    Just the two rear bolts. Maybe someone with smaller hands could get the bolts out from the top side but I had to jack up the truck.

    the directions are exactly the same except the center console removal, even then it's not that hard to figure out. not to sound like an ass, actually screw it, if 6 bolts versus 4 confuses you then don't buy it. it really was simple and easy.

    word to the wise, when you go to take the plastic piece off the ball, do your self a favor and do it in a box, it took forever to find it in my grass because you do reuse it...

    i agree with everything you said!! Its not that hard, if you can read english and have a little common sense mechanical wise, its one of the easiest things to do to your truck other than change a light bulb!! I put mine in in about an hour! oh . . . . . and your right, that thing is hard to find in the grass once youve thrown it 20 ft.!! haha

    and as far as making your truck faster, it doesnt add horsepower or torque but by being able to shift faster through a shorter stroke, your transmission engages quicker putting power to your wheels quicker hence making your truck quicker!! Why else would race cars have short shifters like that??? It aint cause theyre lazy and dont wanna move their arms as much
