Best tool to use to run power to battery

Trying to get to the battery via the rubber grommet below the master cylinder. What’s the tool to use to get through? Rubber seems much thicker than I thought?

Absolutely NOT drill

one slip and your main harness it toast

you can usually get a small x cut with a fresh razor blade, then a drop of dish soap and a few drops of water to get the wire slippery. The coat hanger works very good

 

I use a long Philips screwdriver. Slowly and carefully punch through from inside to outside, tape my wire to the tip, and pull it back through.

60% of the time, it works everytime.

 

There should be an extra "nipple" on the bottom side of the rubber boot/grommet. On the opposite side of where the hood release cable comes out..
Just cut the "cap" of the nipple off and feed up to 4 gauge thru it. I almost always use a 36" zip tie with the "lock" cut off of it to run wire.

 

+1. i always cut the 'x'. try to cut it slightly smaller than the wire diameter you're pulling through, and it will self-seal around the wire.

 

I use Windex as a wire lubricant. Spray liberally, run the wire, let it evaporate.

 

Just did this tonight and all I used was a pocket knife with a decent edge to start the initial cut in the grommet then a screwdriver to complete it. The 10 gauge wire itself was thick enough to drive through the grommet to complete the job.
