A few hundred bucks ? Nothing costs that anymore. A turbo replacement on a normal car is $1500-5000

Texas is part of the globe. :D

Looking forward to the 4th gen reveal. And frankly more interested in the 4Runner since I would like to replace my 2016.

The next 4Runner might be unibody to compete with Grand Cherokee, Honda Pilot, and other like vehicles from Hyundai Kia, Ford and GM. It does not seem practical to build a BOF to compete in that segment. If Toyota sells the next gen Prado in the US as a LC. There isn't much room for another BOF SUV badged as a 4Runner.

I think it is supposed to share the same platform as the new Tundra and 4th Gen Taco.

    4Runner?

If that's the case 4Runner will be BOF. Land Cruiser Prado will also share the same platform. Toyota could build both vehicles for the US market, but if Toyota only prices them $10-20k apart that might not make much sense. Toyota does have SR5 OR and Limited trim 4Runner.

LC could occupy OR Premium and Limited space and 4Runner could occupy SR5 and OR base territory. 4 different trims spread across 2 name plates. I think 4Runner is up to 4 trims now not counting Pro 1.SR5 2.TRD OR 3.TRD Sport. 4.Limited

No real change in the amount of models. I guess TRD Pro could be both a capable and luxury 4Runner model. I'd rather have a LC over a TRD Pro. TRD Pro could very well be rebranded GR series by then.

Yes, the 4 runner will be body on frame as it has been since its inception...The Land Cruiser Prado is already in the US market, here in the US we call it the the Lexus GX 460...

The Land Cruiser Toyota is talking about bringing back to the US market is the LC300 series..or the next series with a electric or hybrid powertrain. Currently we call the Land Cruiser 300 the Lexus LX.

Why would Toyota abandon the body on frame Toyota 4 runner. They build the 4 runner for the Bahamas, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. Not just for the US market. The 4 runner is called the fourtuner in all the other markets and it is Hilux based.

But lets just say they are only building it for the US market, it still has a place in the lineup as one of the few midsize body on frame off road capable SUV's right alongside the Wrangler and Bronco. Rumor has it that once the success of the Bronco was seen the delay of the new 4 runner is to make a few tweaks to make it more competitive.

Why would Toyota want to eliminate or completely change the class of one of its most reliable platforms, in 2019 it placed number 5 in a survey of longest lasting vehicles in the US.

I have heard some speculations about the next gen 4 runner but not being a body on frame design is out there....

I watched a few videos on the weekend saying that the Landcruiser name will be back in North America some time in the near future.

Nothing has leaked out about the new 4Runner , you're just making assumptions. In an ideal world this would be perfect though

The truck in that commercial is a 81 or 82. It was a 2wd, four cylinder, MT. It did have a cataletyc converter and an air pump, etc. The truck weighed nothing compared what our Tacomas weigh now. I am not even sure an extended cab existed then. It did by the time I owned a long bed single cab 84. I regularly topped 30 MPG combined. This was in San Diego and included city, highway and mountain (that is where I lived) driving.

Tacomas are now the size of full size trucks from back in the day. We are only now seeing a return to the "small" truck with Ford's introduction of the Maverick. As we have improved mileage and performance we have grown all classes of trucks. My 2011 Ford F150 was significantly larger then my 2000 F150.

My mom's brand spanking new 1975 Pontiac LeMans (2-Door, black on black exterior, tan interior) had a catalytic converter; in 1975 virtually the entire U.S. auto industry converted to using catalytic converters for their cars. Trucks of varying ratings gradually joined the catalytic converter club over the next decade or so.

My last car without a catalytic converter was my 1979 VW Scirocco; a co-worker of mine took one drive in my Scirocco and went out and bought one the next day, his was a 1980 and it did have a catalytic converter.

forced induction means high octane, aka premium gas only.

Based upon what criteria? The fact is forced induction does NOT require high AKI fuels, however, if you want maximum performance, then yes, you typically do need Premium.

My wife's BMW (turbo six) was having morning sickness. First thing in the morning it would start, then stall. Then start just fine from then on. Dealer came and picked it up (they're awesome that way!) took it in for diagnostics. They called me the next day and the first question they asked was, "Have you ever put anything other than premium gas in this car?" Which, no, it has not had anything other than premium. I hear about the price of premium gas every time my wife fills the tank. The service manager was disappointed, as they were sure that was the problem. In the end, they wiped the "learning" and reset everything back to factory, which seemed to solve the problem. They did, however, issue a firm statement that, "These cars are engineered to be driven. You need to take it and wring it out about once a month. Drive it hard. It'll appreciate it, and you'll enjoy it." Thought that was funny.
