Off-topic: How is Spider Lake for trails? I’m new to the off roading thing, so wondering if there are different levels of difficulty up there?

There will definitely be colder days!!

We have expanding clay in our topsoil here. The company I work for happens to sell a solution for that: quicklime. It stops clay from expanding through a nifty ionic exchange reaction. Many cities in the DFW metroplex have understood the need to quicklime their road bed before laying new pavement, but a few have not.

Long story short, in my 10 mile commute to work I technically pass through five cities. The one city, who for political reasons refuses to add quicklime to their road maintenance budget, more whoops than a skate park as soon as you pass the near invisible "now entering Irving" sign. Some could swallow a smart car. Fun times.

Sounds like a good stretch of road to evaluate how planted your truck’s suspension is!

It depends entirely on how hard you push it. My Tacoma on sharper high speed turns is much more planted than the 60 Chevy truck I had. The body on it would lean far enough to unload the inside rear wheel, the Tacoma stays relatively flat (planted)

I can't deny your personal experience, but I have to point out that shocks do nothing when the suspension is not moving. Static behavior is all about the springs. In particular, cornering with a IFS is much about the sway bar, not so much about the shocks.

Planted is not shocks, it's control. Shocks, springs, sway bars, tires, vehicle geometry, caster and camber are all things that lend itself to a "planted" feel. The vehicle doesnt feel planted when you are sitting in your driveway. If the vehicle is moving, the shocks are working, but shocks set up for rough roads dont feel planted on high speed pavement. This isnt that hard to understand

If you dont believe how rough a "smooth" road is, try riding a hard tail chopper without a sprung seat.

Rebound and downtravel matter a lot for me. I have no idea what vehicle I'm buying next but I'm think Fox 2.0 or 6112's at zero lift. Wheels on the ground at much as possible.

I still haven't driven an Ironman green shock yet :(
