If I do that, I should buy a supercharger!!

Jk I barely have enough time to work on this thing. I did not fairly evaluate the time I had to do this when I decided to do the swap... Good thing I'm also planning to do links and LT front end before March.

Ok so the motor swap is in progress, 70% done with headers, still trying to sneak the LH side thru the gap between the steering col and the slave cylinder. Don't have plumbing routed yet, nor fuel hooked up.

But, I've made a big mistake.....

    I bought another 03 Tacoma.

Got this sucker CHEAP. It's a 2rz 5 lug, clean body, frame in good shape, 5 speed, some front end damage, but runs and drives well. Idea is to make a fun lemons car next summer/spring.

Spoiler alert, thats not going to happen.

    Fun updates:
    D-cab:
Exhaust is fab'd and hung, routing interferes with the stock E-brake cable hanging point, I'll probably modify the routing of this.
Need to make a heat shield for the drivers side cat and for the Slave cylinder.
Bought a water plumbing kit, and a measured out a serpentine belt length, routing is almost the same as 1GR routing.
for the intake manifold, I'll end up using an ABS 3D printed adapter, plastic welded to the upper manifold, hopefully that holds up! I also need to re-sell the various manifolds I bought to re-coup some costs..
Still haven't plumbed fuel or completed wiring...
Also got my hands on a camper top (in red)!

    Taquito:
Maybe I should start a build thread?
GT86 full rear subframe has been acquired
    FIA seat has arrived
I have spare headlights and front grill from when I did the headlight retrofit
100ft of docol R8 is on order for a cage

Finally feels like I've made a good bit of progress recently, I'm dedicating the weekend to getting this thing running... I probably won't quite make it there, the airbox I designed will take 3 days to print, and it just started this morning.

I have so much stuff I want to build but between the job and the missus I don't have time to do a damn thing during the week, and most weekends!

    Well, truck runs!!
It's louder than expected and revs like a racecar!

Still need to sort out several things...

-AC lines need to be connected
-airbox needs to be modified for the new MAF tube
-gauge fuse pops every time I turn the key on, really need to figure this out.

Going away for the weekend so I won't be able to troubleshoot much.

I'll have to put a sound clip up as soon as it's on the road!

It's significantly more obnoxious sounding than I expected tbh

    Went for my first drive!!

Initially I was underwhelmed... The truck feels about the same as the 5vz. After checking the data log, the throttle body was only opening 22%

Time for some trouble shooting, as soon as it's running full tilt, I'll be putting the interior back in!!

Well she's out of the garage, drove about 85 miles today, ECU is in limp mode, but there's no codes which is very strange... Tuner is going to ship me a new ECU and throttle pedal, so hopefully that will get me straightened out! 20220723_170848.jpgfinally got to put the topper on!

Figured out the issue, the Sienna stp and st- signals dont function the same as the Tacoma signals did, I had to snip the st- to get full throttle(ecu was getting brake switch active condition and was cutting the throttle), cruise doeant work now, but I can live with that for a while.
The exhaust is massively louder than expected, so I'll need to do something about that sooner rather than later. The dump under the bed isnt helping of course...
The swap feels awesome, torque is good, better than the 5vz by a margin, but the power is amazing, the butt dyno feels like the power is doubled. The motor spins up to 7400, so the feel is very different than a supercharged 5vz, probably quite a bit faster than that too.

I need to break out the gopro and make a quick video.

one of the 02 sensors is bad or wired incorrectly, (I didn't mess with the wiring of that really, so I suspect a bad sensor)

The front weld seam of the fuel tank appears to have a small leak, no idea if it leaked before or not I never would have noticed if the truck wasn't parked in the garage with a full tank of fuel. its not leaking fast enough to drip, but the front of the tank is wet and theres fuel smell.
I'd like to replace it with an oem tank... but I'm considering fabricating a tank because I'm dumb.

I had been intending to make an auxiliary tank in the spare tire area, if I fab a tank I can add inlet and pressure equalizing lines to the stock location tank.

Took a long lunch break today to play swaparoo at the dealer. We got a little too used to having something easy to drive long distances, so the 3rd gen has been replaced with a Tundra :spending:
Her Corolla is very likely to go too, to help pay this off fast, and I'll just drive a project as a daily :anonymous:
Gotta keep at least 1 in running condition now.
Spending the weekend tracking down the 02 sensor short and doing some of the button up work and maintenance the rig needs.
    • Ac lines
    • Diff oil change
    • Trans oil change
    • Seat re-wiring
    • Reposition throttle pedal

Jealous you have a garage to work out of. I have a 3 car but it's packed full of other toys. :)

Yeah I still have some things in a storage unit as I juggle my space.

It was supposed to just be a temporary thing... but I keep taking on space occupying projects!
