I’ll be removing my factory installed OEM Tonneau cover because I’m installing a cap. What is typically done in regards to the bed rail caps? I plan to sell the tonneau cover and all of its parts, but would rather not have to buy new standard bed rail caps. Is there any reason why I shouldn’t just reinstall the special caps that are used for the tonneau cover, and let the buyer know they will need to purchase them separately?

You can trade bed rail caps with the person that buys your cover. This seems to be the most common practice.

The only problem with that is this cap is being installed next week, so I don’t have much time. The bed rails cap obviously need to go on before the cap.

Well, I guess you are buying new rails then if your cap needs fully intact rail covers. Or live with the cut ones until you find a buyer?

Why would the difference in rail covers affect the cap? Once the cap is on, the rail covers aren’t coming off. Are there any issues with using the rail caps with the cutouts that I’m not thinking about?

Sorry, didn't realize the time crunch. I doubt the cut rails will be a problem for the cap but would be nice to have them to go with the tonneau after sale. I would just keep the cuts one until you find a buyer and then pop the cap off to do the rail swap. It's not too bad removing and reinstalling a cap if you have a buddy that can help. Or a good excuse to put a hoist system in the garage for those times it would help to have an uncovered bed.

I don't know if the cutouts are a problem with your new cap or not. Maybe cause seal issues? Guess you will find out.

Yeah I’m trying to research now so that I don’t have to just “find out.” Thanks.

Anyone have a link to where I can purchase the standard bed rail covers?

What do you want for it without the rail caps?

I hadn’t even thought about it yet. Whatever is fair.
