I keep forgetting to share this story; I don't believe that I ever actually got in the wrong vehicle, but my mom's car from 1990 to 1998 was a white 1990 Toyota Camry LE V6 with a blue cloth interior.

I could tell different generations of vehicles apart before I was toilet trained, so that was never an issue. However, if there was another 1987-1991 Camry in the immediate vicinity, that could pose a problem. One time, probably in about 1994, I went shopping with my mom. When we came out, I absentmindedly walked to the first white Camry that I saw; I jiggled the door handle before I realized that the car I was trying to get into had chrome door handles. I believe that my mom also initially thought that this was our car, but our Camry was actually just a few spaces away in the same row; I also vaguely remember that this other Camry had TOYOTA on the grille in big block letters instead of the Toyota symbol that my mom's Camry had. This would have made that car at least a year older than my mom's. With the exception of the chrome door handles though, it looked virtually identical to my mom's car!

What a great car that was too! It's one of the few vehicles my dad actually regretted selling! My parents bought the car brand new at a dealership in New Jersey, and got one hell of a deal because my grandpa knew the owner of the dealer, and we had it for eight years. In eight years and about 80K miles, the only thing that car ever needed was a battery. It spent the first six years of its life here in Southeast Pennsylvania, then the Navy paid to have it shipped to Northern California in 1996 when my dad transferred to Moffett Field; I forget why exactly my dad opted to sell it instead of having it shipped, because every time we moved the Navy always paid to have one car shipped.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with our Camry, aside from the fact that it lacked a CD player (that was just my opinion). My parents sold the Camry to a local (civilian) couple who owned another early 90s Camry that they loved.

The Pathfinder was only two years old at the time, so we obviously kept that. My uncle flew out to California, and he and my dad took the dog with them and drove the Pathfinder all the way across the country to Virginia Beach. My dad said that they did not stop at a hotel once. They would take turns driving while the other snoozed in the shotgun seat. My mom and I flew.

The 1990 Camry is one of four vehicles that rank among the best we've ever owned. We had a 2008 Acura TL (owned 2008-2014) and a 2013 Honda Pilot Touring (owned 2013-2018) that were great, but we didn't own them for a particularly long time...

    • 1990 Toyota Camry LE V6 (1990-1998; 80K miles)
    • 2004 Honda Odyssey EX (2004-2013; 132K miles)
    • 1996 Nissan Pathfinder SE (1996-2009; 113K miles)
    • 2010 Toyota Tacoma (2009-Present; 160K miles and still going)

The two shittiest vehicles we've ever owned were not unreliable and never left us stranded, but it seems like they were at the dealer for warranty claims at least twice a year...

    • 1993 Chevy S-10 Blazer (1993-1996; 50K miles)
    • 2000 GMC Safari conversion van (2000-2004; 35K miles)

Went to the detail shop where I used to work, to say hello to former coworkers. My old lunch buddy from the farm behind the detail shop was also there! I always thought his name was Troy, but I've got one employee saying the farmer told her that the horse's name was Scout. He did respond to "Scout" when I called that name...

It's all fun and games until a goat sees the fake wreath on the front of your truck and thinks it's his dinner! This was after I got out of the truck to shoo him away...

My truck has this weird quirk all of sudden where if I come to a stop from speeds over 40 MPH, there is this vibration from under the driver's floorboard. At first, I thought it was linked to hitting the brakes, but I have determined that it happens whether I use the brakes or not.

It also feels like something is dragging the front of my truck down, again only at speeds above 40 miles an hour. There also seems to be a bizarre feeling like something in the rear that spins is bent and it vibrates ever so slightly when I hit the brakes.

The truck runs and drives fine, and there are not warning lights on. The brakes also feel fine; Pete just inspected the front and rear brakes when he put the new tires on my truck. The front brakes (calipers and pads, but not rotors) have only about 3,000 miles on them.

In the steering linkage, back in like August. No other U-joints that I'm aware of...

Sounds like a driveshaft U-joint or possibly something with the transmission.
