Yeah, the TRD intake design has a few tweaks to theoretically increase air flow as well (the air accelerator which seals the intake port to the wheel well, larger top box, oiled filter, straight intake tube direct to the throttle body, etc...). Added with the extra sound signature... Yeah, for what you're paying for a Pro, why wouldn't they add it? I think cost to employees is somewhere in the $300 range, probably half that is what Toyota pays? They tack on an extra $500 to the cost of the TRD Pro and people would still buy it. Ah well, at least they offer it as an aftermarket part. Still would've made the TRD Pro a bit more unique to include the TRD intake, some TRD caps (oil and radiator) along with the exhaust.

The TRD exhaust - the mod upgrade that many would choose but few want to pay the going retail price. North of $920 from dealers here for black tip version, post cyber Monday - that's nuts. Found one on FB market place (you don't see them usually). In excellent condition, take off of '21 Pro - got it for paltry $200. Deeper sound easily noticed and slight uptick in volume. I'm in line w/ others - a pleasing sound (kinda surprised the rubber hangers were such a b*tch to deal w/ - hardly mentioned in any Tacoma install vids - until you search YouTube for that specifically to deal w/ - I'm not alone ;) - channel locks and WD-40 helped immensely "persuading" them to let go!). No regrets on 4 hour drive to pick it up (gas below $3.00 helps)

I preferred the chrome tip version and looked for a deal on one for months. A new take off black tipped version became available on the forum and I'm very happy with the performance and sound. It's throaty at startup and while accelerating, but mellows out to almost stock at cruising speeds. The truck shifts so much better and acceleration is much smoother throughout the rpms. I've got it paired with a K&N drop in filter in the stock airbox.

Wax the heck outta that tip. If you don’t it will be pitted and rusty in a matter of months.

I’m going to sand mine and prime it and paint it

oh and BTW for those following the thread that’s another $900+ item that comes on the Pro

Quite a few things on a Pro over and above the Fox suspension ;)

I've heard that and that's why I wanted the chrome version. If it does I'll remove it and spray it with some rustoleum high temp bbq paint. That stuff works really good on 2 stroke dirtbike pipes.

I've heard they both look dirty pretty quickly. I considered the polished/chrome but it wouldn't really match the rest of my truck with the Pro tail lights. Now, naturally I have set up a trade to get some Sport wheels and it would have looked right at home I think, but oh well, black it is for me. Would have been nice to save the $120 on the chrome, but oh well.

I have a feeling the tips looking dirty happens a lot more on trucks without mud flaps than ones with. I don't see why it would look so nasty with a mud flap blocking everything 4 inches away. But, maybe I'm wrong on that.

For penetration on exhaust hangers on other cars I have used windex and a little muscle.
That for sure did not work on my Tacoma. :ballchain:

I ended up using Armor All spray and a whole lot of cursing!!! :D:thumbsup:

I was lucky to buy mine from a fellow TacomaWorld Pro owner. He hooked me up!

Nice. Really nice upgrade. I like it about as much as my new 6112/5160 shocks... but the price they want for it. GULP! They'd sell so much more at like a $480.99 price point. So, it's not just me on the those rubber hangers ;) ... totally glossed over in most install videos - they don't even show that step - I foolishly thought no big deal - yeah, when I got into it I was cussing, WTH???!!! - thank Gawd for YouTube.

The YouTube videos for sound does not do justice to the sound. It’s mellow and gives it a more truck like sound. My wife was worried that it will sound like my old Honda’s with straight pipes or my raspy like my M3. After installing it , I took the wife out for some frozen yogurt and she approved! She said it sounds nice and not annoyingly loud.

    Confirmed and concurred.
Simply a nice upgrade. Darn overpriced new, unfortunately.

    yep, it was me:D

I used Rustoleum High Heat primer. Then high heat Krylon, I believe. I went with a semi-gloss to make the tip more shiny (it actually came out more of a satin).

Got my exhaust yesterday. Installed in 20 minutes last night. Kind of a pain finagling it over the axle but you get it after a little while. Absolutely buy the Lisle 38350 pliers for the rubber hangers. Holy cow what a life changer. I’ve always yanked on them the best I can with my thumbs and the tool is just a million light years better.

I like the sound a lot. You definitely hear it, but not in a bad way. When you’re on the gas you hear it, but when you let off to maintain cruise speed it’s damn near silent like stock.

Anybody that says they sound the same (probably because of a YouTube comparison they heard) is definitely incorrect, they are not at all the same. Anyone in the real world with ears should be able to tell them apart. My TRD definitely seemed substantially heavier than stock to me, I imagine it’s made out of thicker stuff than stock. One thing I’m not sure of is if both it and stock are stainless, or if stock is aluminized steel. Anyways, I consider it a good purchase.

It will have the burning stank for a while, I’ve gone 100 miles and it’s still working it’s way off.
