How many mounts does the engine have, and would it be advised that I take it to a shop to have it done. So to shorten the question, what is the number of mounts needed, and what is the difficulty rating of install with basic tools most people would have?

subbed! My Taco has 226k, would doing the mounts just be good preventative maintenance? Is an engine hoist or some other lift besides a good Jack needed?

Two engine mounts. At this point the rubber has probably degraded that there is risk of them failing and breaking shit so I would recommend they get replaced.

They are a pain in the ass to change. Need ratchet wrenches, flex head ratchet, regular ratchet, ratchet extensions and socket u-joint. It's tight and every bolt seems to need a different setup of stuff to loosen/tighten. Good idea to have a torque wrench.

Lift front end on jackstands, take off wheels, remove rubber engine mud guards and probably have to unplug alternator cable and shift out of the way as much as possible.

As for lifting, engine hoist would be best but many people have risked jacking up from the oil pan. This can be risky and some people have cracked their pans, which is super bad obviously. I used wood across the pan to distribute the pressure as much as possible and went gentle with the jack. You only need to take the pressure off the mounts.

I would say unless you're comfortable working on vehicles and mechanically inclined take it to a shop. It can be a tedious and frustrating job.

If you are mechanically inclined fly at it. It's doable and you'll get through it.

I did this summer. Those with the trans mounts for a manual transmission are one of my favorite upgrades I've done.

Yeah, I found the benefits far outweighed the minimal increase in vibes.

Did you do them yourself, or did you take them to a shop? If you did them yourself, what would you rate the job in terms of difficulty.

Did them myself and around an 7-8 difficulty on my personal scale. I am a tradesman and am decent with mechanical stuff.
