Those with Manual Transmission...why?

1 or 2 out of 10 kids knowing how to drive a stick is theft deterrence. Leaving your keys in the ignition because you believe it would be 0 out of 10, well that’s just stupidity, but I hear your point. I won’t be leaving my keys in my old MT taco any time soon but I do rest a little easier thinking fewer people would want a 20 year old MT truck than a standard transmission sports car.

 

My 2017 SR MT also has hill assist. Nice feature.

 

My son, virtually all of his friends, and most of his girlfriends drive a manual transmission. True story, one of his more recent girlfriends suggested she pick him up for their third or fourth date; she showed up in her dad's 5-Speed NSX!

 

The next step after an auto transmission is allowing the government to shift for you to maximize fuel savings. Anything that can be left to a human and not a robot is a benefit.

Color me impressed. Didn’t know this? How does the hill assist work on the sport ?

 

Since the shift strategy is programmed for CAFE, this is already in place.

 

It holds the brakes for about a second when you're on a hill. It's a cool feature. Purists might hate it but it is pretty cool.

 

It's a nice feature... I wish there was a way to turn it off when you wanted too...



Yes I know I can wait out the timer or tap the throttle... there are times where it can be obtrusive.

 

When you come to a stop, the truck determines if the hill is steep enough and applies the hold portion of the antilock brake valve. When you release the brakes, it holds the pressure for several seconds or until the throttle is pushed. It works in forward and reverse.

 

It’s crazy that they decided to put this feature into 1% or less of their trucks. A manual sport has got to be the second least common Tacoma short of the manual pro. Crazy that Toyota decided to make that feature only available in the sports

I'm a millennial who drives a manual transmission. Many of my millennial peers have or recently had vehicles with a manual transmission.
I thought I was special when I bought my first manual car 6 years ago, but then kept meeting more and more people who also drove a manual.
When I first met my gf she even commented that most of her ex's drove manual cars. I won't mention her comments about any other sticks though


My guess (completely unsubstantiated) is that Millennials and Gen Z manual drivers outnumber Boomer and Gen X manual drivers. Mostly because we outnumber them in overall population, and we're still young enough to not be complaining about our knees or hips yet.

 

Recently taught my gf how to drive manual. She had the basics in under 10 minutes, the rest is just practice. It’s not that complicated, people that treat it as some sort of bragging right crack me up.

 

I have long since lost track.

 

Millennials are old af. When boomers refer to millennials they really think of Gen Z…. Also gentle reminder that someone born in 2001 can legally get drunk

Yeah it's probably more of a confusion of generation names/ranges than actually thinking 40yr olds can't drive an MT.
But every time I see the "It's a millennial anti-theft device! Lololol" I can't help but think "you really don't think anyone 25-40 knows how to drive stick??"

 

Yea I think millennials are the “last driving” generation. As “we” grew up without Ubers etc. the Gen Z Generation is factually Not getting drivers licenses period. Let alone learning how to drive stick. Of course exceptions will occur but yea … not looking good
