Hey Connecticut, our everything hurts

Last week i had a noisy gut, and stomach ache one evening...thought it was from some bad sushi we had dining out. Probably could have been a bug.

 

My take. All the crap that gets collected in every heat system eventually makes it into the air we breath. Regardless whether your at home or out doing whatever. Yes even our trucks accumulate what I believe is the start of an infection. So unless you live in a bubble. The body needs to ward off the infection. Throwing up/ stuffy head what have you. It’s basically inevitable. But the light at the end is a healthy body ready for the next thing that comes along. Jmho

 

Especially at home since the heat system lies dormant

 

Speaking of all of that...

What is the recommended "time frame" for a filter change then for the HVAC at home?

I have central air... try to change it maybe every 6 months or so. Good? Not good?

 

I do stuff like this because some of the other techs will be so confused.

 

It depends on the type of filter, pets, etc. finer filters clog quicker. I am generally every month or two.

 

Having a dog makes a huge difference. We went from monthly to quarterly after becoming dog-less

 

Yea, having a dog makes it exponentially worse. I am pretty sure the norm or average is around 3 months or so.

Someone I work with bought a house a couple years ago; shes around my age (33) and doesnt have too much homeowner knowledge. She tells me her heater stopped working and I asked if she changed the hvac filter at all. She responds “whats that?”. She comes in the next day after she had an hvac tech come in, and said “they told me some sort of filter was clogged”.

 

Friend's summer power bill (A/C) dropped from $400 to $250 when he found the air vents somebody had closed.

 

We have a gas fired boiler. But radiant heat still grads the molecules left in the fins.

Replacing the floor harness because a mouse chewed the airbag part of the harness.

 

Our current heating system is an oil fired buderus boiler furnace...no filters. At any rate i've never had colds, or flus in my 70 years on the planet, just these 24 hr stomach gastrointestinal bugs maybe once every 10 years. I always figured it may have been bad food, idk.

 

Hell yea!

 

Hot water baseboard / boiler . No filter . Wood stove plus 1 household size humidifier and 2 smaller ones . I always put the additive in the humidifier water to kill bacteria also .
