Temps in the South Africian mine were around 105-110 F. The scary part of that was I was there in 1991, during apartheid. I had a guy with a machine gun escort me everywhere outside the mine.
For Boston, they used a boring machine that poured a 2ft thick slip form tunnel right behind the tunnel boring machine. When it was done, they angled it down, sunk it and poured concrete over it since it was too big to fit back through the hole.

    Reserected from the dead.
Just slide a section of bulk heat shrink tube on there if it really bothers you.

Me: I like it that way. It allows lubrication to get into that section of the cable. This way you oil both ends and the middle.

Sorry if I missed it but did you work in this tunnel? My father in law worked in it and was showing me pictures of it. He was up there in the union. Randal Hurley

I was there several months as a contractor. We provided the mucking solution and an additional car on the Tunnel Boring machine.

I put a few drops of oil in the break before I taped it up. Also rerouted it to the outside of the spindle and let the spindle cover hold it in place. Seems like a much more natural position than before. The zip tie at the frame bracket, nothing appears to have been mounted there and vibrated off. The holes seem perfect for a zip tie.

    Time to bag some leaves

I knew it was a big tunnel but I didn’t realize how big until he showed me a picture of a tractor trailer in it. With room to turn around!

They sacrificed a 32’ boring machine to Neptune. Must have been a fed govt contract lol

Most times with a blind tunnel they design the TBM to be sunk at the end. They are pretty much worn out so all they are sinking is steel.
Did it in Chicago too. Most people don't know there is a seven mile long lake under Chicago that is 32 ft in diameter and 800 feet below them. It was part of the Calumet project, so when it really rains hard and the storm drains are full, the overflow goes down to this tunnel and is gradually pumped out back to the lake, usually at night when energy is cheaper.

Been to the bottom of Big Nickel. They have a research project mapping Neutrino’s. Understand very little of it other than it’s waaay deep.

That's because it's pretty much the only place on Earth that doesn't have any stray radiation.

I've cut up a garden hose to use as a sleeve in certain scenarios. Had to use tin snips to cut through the rubber, but it works pretty good in certain heavy abrasive areas.
