I had to do the pictured authorization step before mine would work. 23 offroad. Must have tried for half an hour before figuring this out. As soon as it was authorized, works every time.

My only question now is if I deleted the stupid app from my phone if this authorization will be retained. I assume yes but haven't tried yet. It was through the app that I found this authorization screen in the truck.

Salesman told me only the app worked but today the above instructions worked like a charm. Amazing. 22 Sport.

Can you confirm if you have the remote connect option or not? Doesnt have to be an active suscription, just wanting to know if your truck came with that as an option or is it there but inaccessible like my picture above..

I had the remote connect option but did not want it. I use the FOB to start the truck not the phone app. My Tacoma has the Premium package with Navigation and other goodies. So you do not need the remote connect to be able to use the remote start. Complicated but it is not lol.

Right, but I'm trying to figure out if you need the option of the remote connect app available to use the key fob to start.. (even if you have never used the remote connect) The key fob start doesn't work on mine but my truck does not have the remote connect option available so I'm guessing that's why.

You should be able to use your key FOB regardless of remote connect, entune and all the other bs technology.

I disagree. Mine absolutey did not work until I authorized the vehicle for remote connection through the dash menu posted by 123456. At least that's how my 23 offroad works.

I'm stating what worked for me day one when i purchased my truck off the lot, i asked the salesman how to work the fob. 2021 offroad. It's unfortunate yours needed some activation thru the dash menu. It sounds that Toyota needs some consistency.

Possible the dealer did the initial setup. Mine did, showed me the remote start through the FOB and app. I then revoked all permissions and deleted the app. When I tried remote start through the FOB after that, no workie. I re-download the app weeks later and while setting it up discovered this dash menu for remote connect authorization. Not saying it needs the app per se, but the dash authorization seems necessary.

My experience, with a 20 DCLB, is the same as @123456
I get the same “this feature is not available on your vehicle” message when I attempt a remote authorization via entune. Right when I purchased my truck, I called up Toyota and told them I decline the trial period, and wanted Toyota to turn off all the connected services. I’ve assumed that’s why keyfob remote start has never worked for me, although it can function indenpendently. I suspect Toyota disabled it when turning off connected services.

Makes sense. I don't like it. Wish it was totally independent.

What good is the remote start because if I understand correctly, when you open the driver's door, the engine shuts off.?? Just wondering??

Correct. Still beats going outside in -25 to warm it up at 7am.

I have the same experience and also have the same “not authorized” screen in the apps section. 2020 OR DCLB AT.

I did the same and have the same experience. Sucks that it seems like remote start is just some software toggle away.

I’m trying to search now if the “Techstream” thing mentioned in the poll can be of any help.

I already received the start-x kit but haven’t installed it yet. Good news I guess is that seems like a super easy install.

One of the main reason for me to get the Premium package was for the remote start.

FWIW I installed the start-x kit last night. Installation was a breeze. Under 30 minutes I think. Works great.

I tried FOB RS (lock - lock - hold lock) on my 2022 DCLB OR, and it didn't work. Owned it less than a year.

If you can do the authorization step in the Remote Connect app in the head unit it might work. Else, like me, you’re stuck with the aftermarket option.
