Does Your Factory Remote Start Work?

Ive never tried it with my fob. Didnt know it was a thing till now

Mine 'works' on my 2021 Off-Road.. but I don't use it because of how it works.

 

'22 Sport - Remote start via fob works just fine (By which I mean, "It works as designed", which is crappily). Haven't subscribed to anything, have not installed nor activated the "app", and have done nothing with the head unit...

 

Same as you no subscription, no installation of app and done nothing to the head and it works fine for me. I have to say the click,click,click and hold on the fourth works the best.

 

I used the fob to start my 21 ORDCLB last Friday with no issues. Just got to remember to set it to defrost before I turn the truck off.

 

FOB remote start worked fine until my subscription ran out. Zero problems ever doing the press/press/press-hold sequence

Dealer installed and configured the app on my phone when I purchased the truck.

 

This is correct. The remote start feature requires a one time owner “permission” for Toyota to access the truck . This happens automatically when the Remote Connect system is first setup. If its never setup , it wont work.

 

Both my ‘21 and my neighbors ‘20 still works from the fob after the subscription ended. The button sequence is finicky, if you don’t get it just right, it doesn’t work. I have trouble starting it occasionally if I don’t do it perfectly.

 

2019 TRD Pro here. Remote start does not work.

A buddy of mine has the exact same truck (2019 Pro), and his works. He tried mine and could not get it to work. So doubtful it's user error in this situation. We were both perplexed because we swore we had identical trucks

 

19s don't have remote start from the factory. If his is a 19 its aftermarket.

 

that was our guess, but we weren’t certain. Thanks for clarifying. Now that I know I may pull the trigger on aftermarket

 

I have the N2 Designs with cell add on. I'd recommend it as would most here. Plug and play with great support should you need it.

 

My subscription ran out 1 year ago (Nov 2021). However, I can still use the FOB to short range remote start my 2020 TRD Sport anytime when I'm in physical range of the truck.

I was not going to pay to keep the subscription so I could remotely start my truck via the phone app.

 

2020 Tacoma here. Remote connect activated from day one and always works flawlessly, but I’ve never been able to remote start my Tacoma via the FOB until I saw the below video in another thread. Three clicks and hold on the fourth click and it worked the very first time I tried it. I couldn’t believe it, I’ve been trying to get this to work for over two years. (I have a Limited Rav4 in the driveway and it’s two clicks and hold on the 3rd click, which is normal.) Can’t explain it, but three clicks and hold on the 4th click and it works perfectly on my Tacoma.

 

I was doing it the old 1-2 hold the third and it would work and sometimes it didn't. Now the 1-2-3 and hold the fourth and works ever time.

 

Bought a new '22 TRD OR, 4x4, AT, DCLB in August, no subscriptions and whatever the lowest/base/factory tech package is. Remote fob start worked then. Doesn't work now in December.
