It's still better than the house we had down South that was built in 1922. That one was a real challenge to get stuff to line up. I have gotten better over the years too though.

Curious why you decided to leave the soffit? Lots of times there is nothing in them. They where used often so builder grade homes could use cheaper 30" uppers and have it not like like total shit.

 

Gonna add a couple hanging lights on there. Don't even use the dining table hardly anymore, just sit at that counter space.


Also that protractor would more than likely mess me up more than I do now

 

Mine was chock full of mouse shit, though I doubt the builder put that there.

 

Funny, mine was as well. The only thing in either of the soffits I ripped out was a light over the kitchen sink. I was prepared to redo HVAC, electrical, gas, and water. Turns out I just needed to remove that wire from a junction box in the attic and I was done. lol

 

Yeah, that upper soffit is pecking at my ocd. Curious to see how the recessed lights will look once in place.

It looks like he left you room to work. Unlike the dipshit engineer I had to deal with last year. A two story condo had three rafters fail when a very large tree branch lawn darted into the building. 2x12 rafters @ 16 OC. There was no damage to any other rafters or the bearing walls. This guys plans called for 2x6 @ 12 OC support walls 6" out from both bearing walls. There is absolutely no room to work with them just 6" out from the bearing walls. He insisted that it was needed and we didn't argue. We did move them back 2 feet and go with 4x6 24" OC. Never had an issue working around them and the repair went way smoother. lol
