I do think the debate is funny, I have a manual because I enjoy it,
most of the time. I do miss my old trucks, probably why I still drive a manual.

    1: More interactive driving
    2: No gear hunting
3: One of the last mid sized trucks with a manual transmission
4: 4.30 gearing ratio vs 3.909 for the automatic, means you may not need to re-gear unless you go up to 35's and above
    5: Its fun

Then the 10spd guys could brag about how much more manly they are than the 6spd guys. “WE ROW FOUR MORE GEARS BRO!”

Other than a ‘crawl mode’ (for off road vehicles), shifting a gearless electric motor might fall short (in providing enjoyment) of the traditional manual gearbox…

There would be little purpose, and little accomplished in this case. Would it be ‘fun’?

I am intrigued by these efforts. We’ll see what eventually is developed.

I have always owned manual vehicles… And would not go on an automatic internal combustion vehicle.

But If it’s not actually functional, and would only add additional weight to an EV, Then what is the point?

I Drive EVs, and I dont mind the straight high-speed spooling of a strong and gearless electric motor pulling you up to speed… Not quite as engaging, but a gearbox is simply not needed.

If you always have 100% torque and power available it would make no sense to shift gears. If done right, I think a manual EV has potential to be more fun than a manual ICE vehicle, because there's potential for more variety. Yeah it's not actually needed, but by simulating RPM powerbands and torque curves, a single vehicle could actually have multiple or maybe unlimited number of simulated driving modes. Depending on what you're feeling that day you could choose to simulate the feel of Supra or Corolla or MR2 or Tacoma, or whatever else can be programmed in. There can even be an automatic mode for when you're feeling boring. If they can program an MT vehicle in a video game, I'm pretty sure they can program an EV to behave similarly.

MT because it’s fun to drive and that’s all I have driven. I feel real dumb every time I start my wife’s car and my left foot always go to push in that imaginary clutch.

My favorite is a sudden breaking event and having my "clutch" foot hit the floor.

It always takes me longer than it should to start my gf's car because my left foot is searching for the non-existent clutch pedal to push before turning the key

If you have to push the clutch pedal in to start the vehicle, it's too new!!

I've drive a manual for all the reasons listed plus I'm super ADD and shifting gears helps me focus more on what I'm doing while driving.

I thought it was the mid-late eighties, but you know what I'm saying. It was always fun lurching you awake if left in gear while starting!

I turned the key on my 1981 Datsun with my legs outside the truck forgetting it was in gear. It started up and took off up the driveway towards the garage door dragging me with. Luckily I managed to stop it. Good times.

No I got your full meaning. Someone posted "????"

Our 1996 Volvo 855 MT (rare!) would crank regardless of clutch position. My stupid 2014 WRX needed clutchie pedal depressed.

I don't think the imports started making them that way until later, like you said maybe around 2000? The domestic cars probably had that feature earlier because the fed is always trying to protect us from ourselves!

They did. Mustangs got it in the mid 80s for sure. I think right around the same time 3rd brake lights were mandated.

Buddy had an late 90s or early 00s Saab loaner that didn't. Kinda shocked as when it jumped without pressing in the clutch.
