Hey everyone! First time Taco owner here, just got a 2009 Manual with 190,000 miles. It came with a few modifications already done, but this is sort of where my problem comes in. The truck came with a 2" lift kit which seems to have caused a problem with my CV axle. I took it to a mechanic who told me that the axles would need to be replaced, and that if I didn't lower the lift the same problem would happen all over again. I haven't done anything about it yet because he wanted to charge me $3k for the work and it seemed absurd to me that a 2" lift was too high. A buddy of mine who's owned trucks his whole life, albeit Chevy's, said that the mechanic was trying to screw me and that it wasn't really that big of a deal atm. Here's the diagnosis and photos from the shop. How do y'all think I should go about fixing this?

I don't think I do, but the mechanic told me I should so that I avoid tearing the boot on a replacement axle. Do I even need to replace the axle?

I'm not sure, I think they were replaced at one point by the previous owner but I don't know 100%

Welcome to TW…Find a new mechanic. You should be able to have a 2 inch lift with no problems and $3k for that work, he’s screwing you bad!

Sounds like it...if it was mine and not giving any problems i would throw a boot on it.
but if your paying to have it done i would seriously consider replacing the axle...but it shouldnt cost no 3K
