20 additional minutes aside is notable and possibly explains some of the increased labor cost.

Sounds like the labor also includes time to do some additional things. Whether or not that's right, I don't know. But damn ya'll are ripping this shop up and not looking at the whole picture here.

I'd have to assume the wheel bearings, which are very different than the 6 lug trucks, and it might be a legit service item while the calipers and rotors are off.

So he has to remove the entire spindle to get to the wheel bearings and "repack" them with grease? Do you normally do that with a brake job? Do you know what you're even saying?

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the guide pins, that takes 1 minute to do. 2 minutes if you take your time wiping them down.

Dude, I don't know why you're so closed off to differences between these trucks and the same job being different than you're used to on your truck, but it sure as hell looks like the whole hub has to come off on a 5 lug truck to replace the rotor:

    upload_2022-12-7_11-11-2.jpg

And a TW reference with a video to describe the process:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/5-lug-front-wheel-bearing-replacement-help.649291/#post-22551877

After you watch that video. I think you owe me an apology.

It still doesn't explain why it takes longer than an hour. Explain that please.

It completely explains the OP's original question. The mechanic does infact have to repack front bearings if her truck is a 5 lug, and is not trying to pull one over. The entire time I have maintained that she needs to know what kinda truck she's looking at here to get the right advice. Just because you've jumped to conclusions that a brake job on a 6 lug is a certain time/price doesn't make that right for the OP.

4wd and Prerunner are 6 lug and everything else is 5 lug.

I watched a video with an actual 1st gen and not a 2nd gen like the one you posted, and it still doesn't show me why it would take longer than an hour ‍o_O

The diagram I posted is a 1st gen. You're just being unhelpful now. I don't think you should be telling a shop how much to charge for a job that you didn't know how to do.

Nope, she shouldn't overpay for a job that can be completed in under an hour. I'm sure you're okay with taking your truck to a shop and throwing all kinds of money for simple things like oil changes, but that is something I do not agree with.

You are just being unreasonable at this point. And for whatever it's worth, I have performed every single oil change on my truck (original owner, I drove it off the lot), not to mention every single brake job and all other maintenance, so again, another incorrect assumption on what kinda money I am willing to throw around.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
We don`t know yet 5 lug or prerunner.

On the 2wd 5 Lug Tacoma`s They are not sealed bearings on the 1 st generation 5 Lug trucks

It has front spindles to get the rotor off you need to remove the bearing retaining nuts .

Pop out the seal to get the inner bearing out

Good for you. I have actual experience with doing brake jobs like that with my old 94 Trooper and I can confirm that it takes LESS than an hour to do, and it looks way easier with the 5 lug

Here's a well detailed video. The guy finishes pretty quickly, add a few minutes for the time skips. It looks like he's taking his time as well.
