Hey all! I’m new to the Tacoma world and figured I could get some some
here guidance here. I have a 2018 4x4 sport with 285s and a 3” lift. When I turn to the right I rub but not on the left side. Any tips? Suggestions? Do I need to be realigned? Thanks!

A CMC and pinch weld smash are likely required. An alignment with adjustable UCAs would help as well. There are a zillion threads on the subject. Use your favorite search engine.

    What are your wheel specs?

No need to apologize. Weather it is metric and SAE dimensions all three numbers are needed to determine tire size. There will also be variables from brand to brand and even tire model to tire model. As you will see others will also ask what the wheel offset/backspacing and that is just one of the factors. There is a lot of factors involved to determine what the issues is and what should be done. You also should clarify where it is rubbing. Most will tell you a cab mount chop is needed but that again is a matter of factors. For instance I run a 285/75/17 (34" or about 33.5" when loaded) and I DO NOT have a cab mount chop and I do not rub the cab mount. Be patient, read a lot and be ready to weed thru all the internet specialists. Include in your profile your location (only City) and we can help you find the best local voices to turn to.

Now we know you are in SD you will have a lot of resources. Perhaps too many but there are also some very good ones. First and foremost, define what your objective/plans are for you truck (be honest with yourself). Including how you will realistically use it and what you are willing to spend and not spend. These trucks can easily suck you into spending way more than you ever expected. Share as much detail as you can about the current setup.

Welcome to the forum and nice looking truck!

As others have stated, a CMC and a "pinch weld mod" likely fix your rubbing issue but nothing is guaranteed. A good alignment shop can likely help the issue but you typically start to have rubbing issues when you run a 33" tire.

    Don't you have JD pivots?

Yes. But I don't want to make some think that is the road they have to go down. (I do think it is the best for what I want as of now until perhaps a TTB set up. But that would most likely be a completely different Taco or just go back to a Ranger) But looking at the picture of the wheel it looks like she has stock non TRD Bilsteins so I suspect a puck lift. I myself would put a different wheel and tire combo on the to do list. But that is me and she will need to determine the objective. An alignment might help but it may already be the best it can be considering. I would send her to Harry (can always trust his honest advice) but he will ask her the same questions. You are in her neck of woods, and you would be one of the ones she should talk to as well.

I don't disagree with any of that. It is a little deceiving to say you run a "34" tire w/o a CMC and no rubbing when you have a kit install that is designed to do just that and is a substantial amount more work to have done than just a CMC.

Yes, I could be more forthcoming. I could be specific that I do not rub the cab mount. I am not more forthcoming because so many people out there when discussing tire size just want to refer to only the tread width dimension (I have 285's) and that automatically means one must do a cab mount chop. The industry is primarily to blame for wanting to generate business prior to educating the newbie. By being a bit vague it can generate responses about how is that possible. That maybe a bit of a smartass way I can open a discussion. As you saw I asked her questions, and I will not offer a solution without knowing more details. I don't want someone to send me down a dead end and I try not to do that myself. One thing I did fail to do was recognize that she mentioned 285 but the tire pictured is a 33x12.5x20 which is more like a 315. We just need more details.

Agreed go see a shop that knows lifted trucks. Likely you'll need adjustable ucas like SPC or the rockauto equivalent ones. I got jba fixed +2 caster arms and regret it now that I'm back to stock height and can't use them.

Caster correcting UCAs make the rubbing worse. Caster correcting LCAs would be nice, but AFAIK nobody makes those.

Assuming she just wants to get rid of the rubbing the cheapest and easiest is likely a cab mount chop and hammer massage on the pinch weld, like other suggested

She never said that is where it is rubbing.

That's why I took them off. You can dial in the SPCs, can't you add caster to push the wheels forward? Then again, that's the opposite direction needed for proper alignment numbers. I wish JD pivots were cheaper. CMC probably best bet if rubbing cab mount
