    So I thought this might be helpful and interesting to others on here to document a swap to a V8 from the ever so faithful 4.0.

    Why do a V8 swap? Well, why not. As simple as that but not so simple in practice

    I am in the process of frame-swapping my truck thanks to Toyota's reliable frame failure. Unfortunately missed out on the dealership completing the work due to my truck being imported from the US into Canada. As a result, Toyota US said it was not their problem, and Toyota Canada it wasn't their problem either. You can see how this game of passing the buck went. Needless to say, I ran out of patience and decided to solve this problem myself.

    Somewhere along the way the talk and thought of a V8 came along and then about a week or so later I picked up an LQ4/4L80e/NP246 setup. I also grabbed an NP241 tcase to go for a manual setup to simplify the installation and increase some reliability.


    Here is how the truck looked when I picked it up 2 1/2 years ago and a few more recent photos.

    If i was going to motor swap, it would be something like this.

    Makes me miss my 01 4x4 chevy 2500hd with the LQ4 and 4L80... wish I still had that truck from time to time, with modern advances in LS things, I coulda had a smog passing, 350-400hp/400tq full size truck that got 20+mpg unloaded.

    I’ll be deleting the smog out of the Taco to make life a simpler. 20 mpg would be real nice. Stock LQ4 this should bring the Taco back to life and handle 35s or 37s fine.

    Nice! Im in the middle of an LS6/4L60E/NP261HD swap. Current putting motor in, waiting on a new oil pan. I guess we'll see who wins the swap race!

    Seriously though, I'll be keeping tabs on this thread, this swap has proved to be pretty involved, deleting ADD, keeping power steering, AC, converting from manual to auto, making mounts. You know, the fun stuff.

    You get 20+ mpg unloaded until your stupid lifters fail. And they will. I disabled all that shit in my Gen IV Tahoe and am back to ~15mpg in mixed driving.
