We have had ours now for a few months now. After washing it there is some water in the bed, not a lot and we have a mat. There is also some signs it comes in along the sides caps as you can see water drips on the side of the bed.

only issue I had was mine was missing one of the long weather strips that goes along the bed caps. They got one in the mail to me quickly.

Like my MX4 as well .. no idea why people get their panties in a wad if a little water gets in the bed, it's a truck after all,
not like I'm keeping bags of flour in there. Then again we get about 3 inches of rain per year so it's not an issue anyhow.

My bed has pre-drilled holes for the drain tubes, I need to cut them and apply the grommets to them just for fun.

Did you just take the cover off to do this? And how long did you wait before putting the cover back on and closing it?

Ordered mine today directly from the Backflip website. It was 10% off + free shipping today, plus I asked in the chat window if there was an additional Black Friday deal and they knocked another $40 off. With tax that still breaks a grand, so maybe I could have done a little better with patience and research. Glad to read all these 'pro tips' on here ahead of time. This will be my first DIY mod to my new toy, so I'm excited!

32 hours after ordering and FedEx just delivered. Now the fun begins!

Question: I watched 3 YouTube videos and they conflict. The one in this initial post doesn’t show putting on the bulk head seal. Another seemed to back that up saying you only need it on painted or linex surfaces. But a 3rd one showed applying it to a surface like the Tacomas have. Advice?

Mine came with a thick weatherstripping for the front and I put it on. Once I got the cover on, it was raised up in the front and the seals didn’t sit flush. So I took it off and everything sat perfectly. I think it’s personal preference really.

Thanks! I’ll just leave it off initially, I can always add it if needed.

Now, I did do what the OP did with adding a bead of RTV on the bed caps and around the openings in the front corners of the bed. Mine hasn’t been tested in the rain completely though. Only once when it rained lightly for a bit, and I noticed water in those corners pretty bad.

Here’s how mine held up after adding a bead of RTV to the sides under the Bakflip rails. I guess I may need to add some more, as well as add some to the front too.

I've found if its sitting flat on top, its pretty dang waterproof for what I want. The bulk head, I put it on, sealed the little gap for me. I think its just look and decide for yourself. If you have gaps, they'll be better served sealed. If you're limber enough, just put a lantern/light source on top and see where light comes through once its dark out

All 5 bulk head bolts and 6 of 10 side rail bolts were so tight I had to strain with a hand socket to loosen them first. Unfortunately on the very last one the T30 bit stripped it. Not sure what to do now.

Extractor? If you don’t have that, tap along the inside with a screwdriver then use pliers to extract I suppose. I think some people have varied success with a rubber band on the driver to get it out. I think another technique is like JB weld something to it and then turn and see if it breaks free and will extract

That whole process of removing the screws I did by hand

Should have been able to do by hand, as mentioned 4 were that way. But 10 were so tight a drill didn’t work, had to use every ounce of arm strength to start them with a socket. The factory way over tightened them. Last one stripped. Tried to drimmel out some slots for a standard bit. Slipped and put a nice scar in the bulkhead bar. Now I’m just p!$$ed.

Since it’s inside that thin rail getting leverage with a screwdriver and hammer or a wrench is not working. Ugh. Football break!

Bought an extractor kit ad used my big Milwaukee drill. Still won’t budge! I just found another thread specific to this issue, so it’s apparently common. I’ll put a link here if it works.

I had this EXACT same thing happen less than a month ago. Got a left handed drill bit and drilled it out, and then got a replacement bolt for like $.82 from a local dealer. Part #: is 90148-A0006, part name: Screw Hexalobular
