this is wild. I'd go up the ladder and get in contact with the GM. That service advisor does not have the knowledge to do their job.

I haven't had a drum or rotor turned in years. New ones cost about the same, and no risk of getting them back messed up.

I just called my local oreillys. $25 bucks per rotor or drum. That’s actually a lot cheaper than replacing, but, again, you’ll be back doing it over sooner than if you had replaced the parts…

@hx989 I think it's a little more for trucks. I paid $30 or $35 a couple months ago. My oem rotors went 70K on resurfaced rotors, although, truth be told, they started shaking at about 60K. But, right now, the price of rotors/drums has jumped up. Maybe due to covid or high demand, or both.

Nope, must be just prices in your area where gas is $7, a burrito is $20, and a basic 1,200sqft house costs $1MM

yah totally. I expected SOMETHING to work but yah its now a luxury item. I just do not like the truck sitting on the transmission when it rolls back. right now I can press the e brake and drive ha In talking with SOS and a couple people it should although not as well work to some extent but yah not a deal breaker. For my application and truck weight the rear disc setup has been value add.

And yet you chose to pay them to do your brake work. Twice.

At least do yourself the favor of finding a capable independent shop.

There is nothing magic about Tacoma brakes.

The brake pad and drum kit I got was only $138. And the pads on mine definitely needed replacing at 90k miles. Link above has comparison photos. Even some of the drum pads had chipped away at the edges

Just come to a full stop before putting it in park. I wouldn’t worry about the transmission. The parking pawl is easily strong enough to rip the teeth off the flex plate.

Def just one more thing to watch out for and more eventual wear and tear on the truck. Just doesn't feel great depending only on that.

Lol. Housing is not far off but it does depend on location - beach front housing at 1 mil is a bargain. Gas prices are, finally, dropping here - $4.09 at Costco; burritos average $10, although a good surf/turf burrito can hit $15.

Well… I just spent $20 (including tip) for my favorite surf and turf at lucha libre last week. When I said local oreilly earlier I meant back in WA. Winter home is San Diego and Baja

Lucha Libre is where I had my first surf/turf burrito, about 6 years ago - $10 if I remember correctly. I’m now in east county. Burritos are more affordable over here. I’m sure you are familiar with Puerto Nuevo, then? I think we are starting to hijack this thread … sorry guys.

I was just thinking......since I have to rotate my tires every 5,000 miles because the fronts wear much quicker, does that mean the Tacoma doesnt use the rear wheels either?

And people wonder why dealership Service personnel get a bad rap. Words fail me. Oh, and yes, Tacomas do use their rear brakes to stop. But yes, most of the stopping power
Just remember, not all rotors / drums are created equal. There's a reason OEM costs more. The lowest priced brake parts won't last nearly as long as OEM - or a quality aftermarket part. Cheap "white box" Chinese brake parts are borderine dangerous.
