I test fit the steering column bracket today and welded it in once I was sure that it cleared everything.

Damn. I can't even tell where the new welds are versus the OEM.

I took the steering wheel lock off today. They are pretty clever at the factory, they use torque off heads on the bolts that hold the lock to the steering column. Luckily the column/lock housing is made of aluminum so I was able to weld on some 13mm nuts on to the torque off bolts with worrying about welding to the housing. They came right out and so did the lock. I need to steer the truck to wheel it out and take off the bed. Also I had to drill a new bolt pattern to use the lexus steering column boot. The diameter of the shafts is different, no big deal. The column is fully bolted in and the truck steers now. I put in the beige steering wheel for now because I don't want to accidentally damage my black leather with no wood grain (which is pretty hard to find). 20221208_131922.jpg 20221208_131916.jpg 20221208_131804.jpg 20221208_131847.jpg 20221208_131753.jpg

I found this thread by chance. Truly refreshing and took the time to read it all. OP is getting it done. We’ve all thought about this very swap!

What is your plan for the shifter? Will it align or will you just cut as needed and use the GX’s?

Keep it up! You’re a source of motivation.

Thank you for your support. I will try to line up the shifter with the oem plastic cover. If that doesn't work, I will probably tig weld a cover up.

The driver's side bolt can be removed without cutting or lifting the engine. Just have to loosen all 4 Ac compressor mounting bolts(1GR-FE) then remove all except the rear upper one so that the compressor can be tilted back just enough to get the bolt out. Not hard to do. People wonder why Toyota slid those bolts in from the top and it's for safety reasons. If inserted from the bottom and for some reason that bolt breaks or loosens it will fall out the bottom and your steering will be compromised. Awesome build though!

Did those in July/August. Should have waited until now. Lol. Bent over in that heat was a killer. You're in much better weather.

Due to my brake lines, on the driver side, there were some modifications requires for those plates. A few others needed slight notching or cutting. Nothing major. Otherwise, a great add in.

As the cross member, I also added in some cardboard CAD plates. Since that section was left out. These might be a worthy addition for you two @nudavinci64 and @dpanibratets

To do the DMZ kit does box removal allow full install of all the plates? Really like the add in that @Torspd did as well

I think you could probably weld in the plates without removing the bed but I am trying to restore the frame and prevent future rust. I am going to give it a good wire wheeling before any fabrication occurs.

That seems to be the MO of installs. That’s what I hope to do as well.
