Gritto's Last Flight

Sooo... I was on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park.
Hiking the trails from Grand Lake, a couple days out.

I drank some water (which I failed to boil... hey, it'll be alright)
... and caught Amoebic Dysentery
Who knew the little bastards can live in melt water above 10,000 feet elevation
Probably it was Mountain Goats shitting in the water.
Started feeling sick and returned to Grand Lake.

BTW, they had this cool thing at Grand Lake every July.
I think they called it Wild West Days.
They had gunfights in the streets (using blanks).
This was back in the 70s.
Karens have probably put an end to all the fun by now


Where was I?
Oh yeah.

So I took a bus to Denver and caught a flight home... using the rest room frequently.
The last leg was from Pittsburgh to BWI in Baltimore (it had just been renamed, formerly Friendship International Airport).

That flight was on Allegheny Airlines... better known today as US Air.
Back then they were a small regional airline out of Pittsburgh.
How they became a major player is one of life's mysteries

The plane was an old rattly DC-9...
... and we had heavy turbulence.
I mean heavy
I thought that old crate was gonna shake itself to pieces.
But it didn't.
I swore I'd never fly again (that was 40-odd years ago).
