    Oh look, another mod....

Currently I have Travelers. I've been with them since I bought my truck (almost 2yrs ago), before them, I had Geico for 8yrs, then USAA for a number of years. My rates actually went DOWN when I got my Tacoma. I previously had Hyundai Sonatas. I had a 2016 (prior car to this truck), and a 2011.

My brother in law is my Insurance agent and he told me that because of all the safety features on my new truck, it made the rates go down. My credit score also improved over the last 2yrs, so now I'm in the 800+ range. Believe it or not that matters a lot to most carriers.

Oh, I do not have very high coverage limits. Most of the guys in this thread mentioned they have 250/500 (,000) Not me! My limits are listed below. Flame me if you want for setting my deductible at $2500, but I'm a very cautious driver with no at-fault accidents in almost 10yrs.

I suppose that's the "Fraud and litigation" part. But yeah that makes sense. Never heard so many law firm advertisements as I have until I moved here.

I made some changes last night. I had storage insurance on my rock crawler that sits in my garage 99% of the time and hasn't been mobile for a year. (other priorities)

    IMG_8963.jpg

Doing the math, having 500 dollar deductibles is worthless for us. Moving them up to 1000 is a better option. The 1000.00 is pocket change in the big scheme of things and after 2 years we are money ahead. I haven't been in an accident with another vehicle since 1994 in CA. My last speeding ticket was in 1996 (in UT) heading back to Montana from CA for Christmas (not that I haven't deserved one since then...:D).

I will probably put tow insurance on my tow rig through Camping World for 130.00 for two years. They don't care about mileage and guarantee the correct tow truck will show up. That matters when towing heavy gooseneck trailers. I can't beat that price and towing insurance from USAA is 14.95 per month with plenty of restrictions. I tow a lot of heavy loads and this can get costly when a mechanical breakdown occurs.

How much did it drop? 2200.00 to just over 1700.00 every six months. Not a bad savings.

Careful. They're called "accidents" for a reason. Your property damage coverage isn't enough for a nearly new car nowadays if you somehow total someone else's vehicle. And that's figuring only one damaged vehicle into the equation. Add another vehicle and lightpole and you're easily over your limit. I am also a cautious driver with 0 accidents in my 14 years of driving.

Property damage coverage usually does not cover damage to your car, it only covers the damage done to a property. Collision coverage is for any damage done to my truck.

Example: I swerve off the road and hit a light pole. Property damage pays for the pole, up to $25k. Collision coverage pays to repair my truck; minus my high-as-fuck deductible.

I have been with USAA for about 15 years now. They are a little cheaper than other companies, but not by much. And of course their membership is restricted to Military/Veterans/family members.

In California, I was paying about $105 - $110/month for full coverage on my 2017 Tacoma. I expected it would be a lot cheaper when we moved to southeastern Kentucky in August of this year. It's actually exactly the same as CA rates. I expressed shock when the agent gave me the quote, but she said "In KY, the State sets the vehicle insurance rates/premiums, we as the insurance provider have no say in it." The quotes I got from other carriers were very similar, though slightly higher.

    Oh, and I have a $1000 deductible.

Probably not fraud as much as litigation. It is so bad that they don't even worry about fraud because it is ridiculously legal. Newlin has taken it to a new level with their ads. They show smiling people holding big checks with tag lines like "Dan got me $1,000,000". Ads like this are all over billboards and on TV.

I'm talking about ANOTHER person's car, my dude. That's what property damage liability is. Collision is for your own car. Property liability is for someone else's.

I get it and agree with you. I have it set low because I haven't cause damage to anyone's property in a decade. If I raised the limits, I wouldn't benefit from it.

I shop other insurance companies every year when my home owners expiries. When all said, and done geico has saved me quite a bit over the last 3 years. I've had others give me quote's a bit less in one area, but much higher in another when i bundled everything together.

Here's a great idea: You do you, and I'll do me.

Stay in your lane. I'm not on this thread telling you how to insure a truck you pay for, don't tell me how to insure a truck I own.
