Louisa, but I spent the majority of my youth in Augusta. Stuart’s Draft middle school and Wilson Memorial. Lived in Stanton and Waynesboro. I loved living over there. It’s really changed so much over the last 30 years.

We're getting there. I'll give this one to my parents and then 1 or 2 more for us and the freezer will be good for the year.

No, just bones. I did look for an arrow.
Thinking I'll go back with a metal detector.

So I was sitting at my tree overlooking my hunting area right behind my buddy's stand (he wasn't in it)and at 15:10 hrs I saw this big buck coming off to my right down the trail. We have had this buck on our trail cameras for 2-3 years and couldn't pattern him to get a chance to shoot him. Well today was the day. Really big 10 point buck ( biggest deer I've ever seen in the Massachusetts woods!!) Watched him for 5 minutes until he gave me a broad side shot at 24 yards with my bow. He had his head down and stepped out from behind this tree to my left. I let it fly but it hit him in the left shoulder. It spun him around and I watched him take off back to where he came from towards the swamp with the arrow sticking out of him as he ran. Waited 45 minutes and started looking for him. No blood, no arrow and no deer. I searched methodically in those woods for 2 hrs and found nothing. I've never wounded a deer in my life. I'm pretty good at this game whether it's bow, shotgun, rifle or black powder. If I don't have a shot I don't take it. This was not the case and I feel bad. I'll be back at it at first light in the morning. I'll pass on my findings. Stay safe and enjoy the day.

Anybody who’s hunted for very long knows exactly how you’re feeling. I’ve been deer hunting for about 48 years and I know that feeling all too well…Good luck tomorrow!

    Sucks.
Happened a couple times in my 46 seasons. Left me with a shitty feeling.
As long as YOU know you did everything possible to track/recover the animal.

Several does early on and with only a few days left wrapped up my season yesterday with this buck. Had just put my release on when he walked in. For those still at it, hope you get one!
