So, I live in a cold climate and a remote start would be amazing but I have a manual...
I have a clutch cancel button on my Taco; in theory, if the remote start was able to trip the clutch cancel switch then a remote start could work in my truck? I don't know s*** about f*** when it comes to electrical so this is just me thinking out loud. Does that sound like a feasible idea?

I'm sure it could be done. But obviously would be an issue if your truck was in gear and/or parking brake was off.

Never really understood the need for remote start, even in a cold climate. Unless it started the heat/defrost as well. Then I could see it being useful.

Not at all, you're going to kill someone, non start, do not do, do not attempt, do not consider.

I always park my truck in neutral/parking brake. If I leave the heat/defrost turned on when I shut the truck off then it'll be on when I start it, that solves that.

What is the reasoning here? How am I going to kill someone with a remote start?

I'm not trying to be a dick, but think about it. You are going to leave your truck in gear one day and cause damage.

That's a justified concern, however, I've never owned an automatic, been driving a manual since I was 16 (35 now) and not once have I parked a vehicle in gear. It's just not in my brain of how to park with a manual transmission. I will take your concerns into consideration, this isn't something I'm thinking of doing anytime soon anyway, was just a thought I had. And also, there are manuals nowadays with factory remote start, no?

Id assume so with todays technology. There is no such thing for our trucks. I understand where you are coming from with always driving manual. I get it. But its going to start first gear and idle up on cold start, just seems like a terrible combination. It's not a risk many of us would take.

I always leave it in gear, in case the parking brake fails. I also don't mind walking an extra 20' to start my truck lol.

It probably isn't offered from the factory for a reason...the liability of running someone over lol.

But anything is possible, do what ya want. Like you said, all you gotta do is bypass the clutch start cancel, which would be simple.

Don't get me wrong, I understand where y'all are coming from. If I even do it, the times it gets used would be my driveway at home. I know this is the internet and none of you know me but I am not a person to do something on a whim without thinking it out and considering possibilities; that's what I come to these forums for, people's experience with working on their truck, what works and what doesn't. All this information is appreciated and will be considered with what I do to my truck.

Your parking brake will fail if you don't use it regularly. Shoot I yank mine on it the the garage on a flat floor over the years I have fixed many parking brakes that failed inspection because they were never used.

I bet most, if not all of them, were all on vehicles that had automatic transmissions. Parking brakes on vehicles with manual transmissions generally get used frequently.

Maybe I should have been more specific... I always use the parking brake and leave it in gear, in case the parking brake fails lol

Sounds like you have it covered then. Go for it. Personally, I've been driving standards since 1970, and never once parked one in neutral. Still won't.

I’ve considered doing that also, but after fathering a few children, I’ve decided against it. Sometimes you should put it gear when you park it..if I’m on a slope, I always do. Then you hit remote start and it runs over someone.

I would love to hear about the failsafe so it doesn’t crank while in gear. If it can be done safely I’d love to have remote start.

Over the years I have seen the results of manual vehicles parked in gear one was my own nephew in his dads car several stiches and a fairly damaged VW. Another was one half way through the garage wall. It's a bit of a task to make a manual trans fail safe for remote start if it's parked in first gear with the brake on it's fairly likely the parking brake won't stop it

I put a remote starter in a manual car decades ago when I was young and dumb; I’m a fairly careful person and always made sure it was in neutral … except for this one day my mind was elsewhere and I completely forgot, and later I had to replace a neighbor’s fence.

    Don’t do it.
