It’s a factory style blower. Totally different realm when compared to turbos lol. And still doesn’t put out the power a very mildly built LS would.

Or just grab yourself an LSA for a few grand.

But really you can buy a 525hp LS3 directly from GM for like 6k. Have one sitting in the shop now for a wrangler build I’m doing.

It’s not just about more power, the transmission and torque converter are arguably more important. Until you have driven a truck with a manual valve body and high stall converter you won’t really understand the dramatic effect it has. A supercharged 4.0l toyota motor in the dirt is gutless because the factory converter KILLS it. A factory stall is around 1800rpm and the time it takes to spin the engine up to 4000rpm makes the truck slow, they simply don’t have the torque to push the truck.

So for the guys saying add boost or cam etc to a 4.0 it won’t make a huge difference. Personally I’d rather have a stock 4.0 with a huge stall then a supercharged 4.0 with OE stall. The shitty part about the Toyota tranny is I haven’t been able to find anyone that will build a high stall lockup converter for the Toyota trans. Then you have the issue of strength and a Toyota trans can’t hold a candle to a 4l80 or TH400 with billet internals.

The motor is the cheap part, the trans/converter and coolers are upwards of $15k... oh and want 4x4 add another $4-5k for an atlas, pls don’t ask me how I know :)

Realistically, can be done far cheaper for the average guy. Far, far cheaper.

And it will not last if you do what we do with our trucks

And FYI a fully dressed LS3 is $11k... we purchased one last week

Maybe not, but the 4l80’s can be made super stout pretty cheap. Is it as strong as a full case and billet internals? Nah, but it’ll last a while.

Also, the GM performance 525HP LS3 I have sitting in the crate now was 6k delivered. The fuel injection setup was 3. The built TH400 was a couple and the Dana 300 in a billet case with billet internals was 3.

you don’t have to spend 30k to party.

I know somebody in the supercharged group got a high stall converter, I think from ipt performance? https://www.importperformancetrans.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2163

A stock 4l80 behind 400+ HP and 37’s don’t last a season in our world.

    And a long block LS3 is $6100
    https://www.jegs.com/p/Chevrolet-Performance/Chevrolet-Performance-LS3-LS376-525-62L-525HP-Crate-Engine/1941625/10002/-1?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4-uytYnu-wIV8wqtBh08JgevEAAYAiAAEgJztfD_BwE

Fully dressed and ready to run is over $11k, again we purchased one from GM last week.

A stall in the 4K+ RPM range generates a ton of heat (converter slip) so you will need multiple, large trans coolers. Also the truck will be way less “street able” as the truck doesn’t really move until you reach the RPM range the converter is set at. It will also reach that RPM instantly so for example if you have a 4K stall the truck will constantly be up in that range at a minimum.

I did in the past and they were unable to provide me with what I was looking for at the time... the stall is a function of the converter blade angle and pump size. They didn’t have a solution for the correct pump required to achieve the stall I wanted. Also dealing with the Toyota ECU was an issue. Essentially the truck would need to be programmed for a manual trans and then you would need to build a harness to manually control the lockup solenoid. There was too much expense and too much unknown for me to feel comfortable doing it, especially since the trans would still have stock internals

These dudes used to do a full manual valve body and they offer the lockup control harness….if you’re ever looking for it again

also, after all the time and money I’ve spent trying to extract more out of the 4.0, I’m on team LS here.

I get it. The deeper problem is exploring, pushing it and having a shop support the parts. But I mean you're certainly paying for it with the LS and 4l80. I'm sure it can be done with the 1GR-FE and A750. I don't know anyone with a level10 built a750 transmission but certainly read about it online but I'm not in that realm to drop 20k on a trans with all the fixings and atlas, etc. Seeing how much an LS setup is running these days and the cost to shove one in is no longer cheap, you could spend money a number of ways to acquire that power and a solution to put it down on the dirt. I'm not arguing though. If that's what the man wants, he's gonna get it.
