Picked this up for my son for his bday. I didn't realize these things had a functional FM radio and MP3 jack, as well as LED headlights. My son didn't realize it also came with a remote control...I kinda scared him at first, when it went all Christine on him. Good times!

I can’t wait until he's a bit older and I can get a bigger battery in it.

Me back with another stupid question.

Other than Hollister (I’ve never been there but I’d rather not deal with a busy park - assuming that’s what it’s like) are there any other spots within an hour or so of San Jose? I want to find some sort of dirt road where I can mess around with my suspension set up.

Even if it’s just like 50-100 yards is probably enough.

I found one that’s on the way to Big Sur from Santa Cruz that goes around that big bridge but it’s pretty much a smooth dirt road.

Hollister's probably your best bet if you really want to put it to the test. Most everything else is just going to be a fire road. Unless there's an event on, it's unlikely to be busy enough to be a real bother.

Just go to Hollister. If you’re afraid of crowds, go during the week.

Probably further than you want to go, but if you travel about 1 hour further south to Big Sur you can take Will Creek Rd / Los Burros Rd / South Coast Ridge Rd. Look for Treebones Resort, and it’s a left up a hill from there. It is still an easy road, but definitely more challenging than the one you mentioned around Bixby Bridge and has amazing views. I rarely see other vehicles there.

If you haven't already purchased what you need, I have some 2/0 assemblies I just re-discovered in my parts bin:

    + battery to lug 8'-3"
    - battery to lug 9'-3"
    + lug to lug 6'-2"

Sure we can make a deal if the lengths work for what you are doing.

It’s not that I’m afraid of crowds I just expect it to be like Disneyland since it’s the only off road spot in the area. All I need is a short stretch of bumps I can mess around with my suspension for a bit. I guess I need to check it out before just dismissing it.

That’s not too far. I’m expecting 1-2 hours max. I’ll check this out too. All I need are some bumps so I can play around with my suspension.

Your profile show Santa Cruz, so pick any one of the Santa Cruz mountain roads that county does not maintain regularly. Old Santa Cruz road between Summit to HW17 on the Santa Cruz side is more potholes than pavement and I can point to a spot on Glenwood Drive (north of the cutoff) where you can get airborne with a little speed. Might not be dirt but your suspension will get exercised.

But only if you don’t need high speed, people and their pets are up here.

Not sure how often those roads are maintained, but the last time I went up there were some pretty good sized ruts and bumps.

The handful of times that I've gone to Hollister it was on a weekday.....and it was near empty every trip. I would be the sole truck in the obstacle course, etc. Felt like the lonely kid at a playground.

Hows the quality on this? Seemed questionable to me since theres like 20 different sellers for it on Amazon lol. How old is your kid too? im guessing their still too small for it since youre waiting.

Quality is good, far as I can tell. I never had a battery-powered ride like this when I was a kid, and from all of the ones I've seen as an adult I'd say it's comparable. I don't know that I'd equate multiple sellers to questionable quality...the same analogy could be drawn between all of the knock-off Pro grilles being sold by multiple sellers, all from the same factory.

And yeah, he's only 2 ( he's 3' tall and almost 40 lbs, but still only 2). So no super-powered carts yet.

Kinda makes me wonder how many kids will never learn to pedal a bike now that everything is electric.

Tell me about it! I ride most Saturdays along the American River bike path, and the uptick in ebikes is almost overwhelming. Thankfully my boy already has a balance bike, and keeps trying to get at my bmx collection. He'll know how to pedal a bike before he can run gracefully, if I have anything to do with it

e-bikes come in three different classes. Class 1 are those that pretty much are bicycles. You want power? Gotta pedal.

But I'm seeing way more of these throttle bikes that don't require pedaling at all. A few days ago, some young kid was going down the street at 35 or so on a skateboard. Scooters are pretty big as well. Most of the time, these are on the sidewalks or going the wrong way on the street. Rarely do the kids wear helmets...
