I know you were; I'm saying the damage wasn't severe enough. It smashed in the door and left an indent of the pipe in the back fender...

I was at Pete's getting an assessment on the U-joint situation. One of Pete's other customers was there with 2009 AC 5-speed 4x4, which he's has since new and has driven almost 240K miles! He didn't have great credit and couldn't get a good interest rate, so he used his life savings and paid cash. The truck has been through two clutches and an A/C compressor, and has also had the frame replaced under recall, but has never needed any major engine work done...

The owner of this truck admits that he drives like a grandpa, but I'm still a bit pissed that his engine is pushing 240K miles and still has the original head gasket!

That’s just how it goes sometimes.
The good news is, it was something that could be fixed, and you got the truck back

Sometimes it is just good or bad luck. I have seen some people not service a truck for 480K miles without one issue. I have also seen people care for their vehicle and have nothing but bad luck.

The owner of this '09 says he drives in like a grandpa, and most of the miles he logged were on highways across multiple stated lines; I put 5,000 miles on truck in two months doing DoorDash back in 2021, almost exclusively around town rather than on the highway...

Thermal cycling can really make it difficult on parts. Other times even when someone thinks they are maintaining a vehicle, sometimes things are missed. Hell, I was pretty lucky in TN this year with my clutch fan failing to the locked position so I could just eat the fuel economy losses and repair at home.

Early Colorados are nothing like other Chevy trucks in terms of reliability...

Perhaps but the "fuck you" attitude at all levels was the biggest problem

And the main office. Basically each one said the other screwed me but they couldn't do anything.

Aside from a couple styling clues through the years, how do you know that this was a 2014? I mean like, how do you know it's not a 2013 or a 2015? Not just this particular instance, but many, many others. Do you wait around for the owners to chat them up?
