These New tires are so quiet!!!

    Previous: 265/75/16 wrangler duratracs
    40mph - 65db
    70mph - 75db

New: 235/85/16 Cooper discoverer at3 lts

    40mph - 62ish db
    70mph - 70db

impressed so far. The noise difference was like I got a Lexus. Will be excited to see MPG Difference here in a few weeks.

I think this size looks a lot better with a more aggressive tread pattern like a KO2 but I’m happy with the purchase and am hopeful these stay trouble free and keep me safe for the next 50,000mi.

thanks for everyone who helped me solve the problem I already understood lol

I think they look very nice & I'm surprised they are that much quieter.
Very nice job measuring the dB (I don't think of stuff like that until after I remove the old tires)

Agree, it would be interesting to see the MPG difference.

Thanks yeah. Picked up the idea from my buddy who did testing before and after sound deadening on his FJ. Took readings from his Apple Watch.

So I made the decibels a constant on the watch face and drove around and kept record. Readings from Apple Watch in cab.

Would be a cool experiment to do testing this way with a ton of different tires.

Give me a few weeks to get some fuel tanks through the truck on the new set and I’ll report back with mpg changes.

First tank in on the new 235/85/16s and it’s a bust. I usually averaged 15-15.7mpg and this tank I got 15.1mpg. I will say though that I’m still Impressed by that because all this week and last I’ve been staying late at work and hitting stop and go traffic on my way home.
I usually leave before traffic and so I think that’s what has been dragging my numbers down.

Christmas is my busy season so hopefully I can get a better reading soon.

Don’t forget they are larger in diameter, so you are actually going a bit further than your odometer shows. Best wat to get accurate distance is with a gps.

Thanks for the reminder. They're the same diameter as the 265/75/16 I came from so it should be about the same.

Oops I misread your original diameter as .70 instead of .75. And sure enough you’re extremely close!
Maybe your air pressure? I live at 5,000+ feet and my pressure can very depending on weather fronts and temperatures. Also our winter gas mix is always worse than our summer mix.
Just throwing things out there, but you probably have it figured out with the rush hour traffic vs non traffic.

All good. Yeah! Close, I'm sure with regular driving I'd be better on the MPG, but I hit a few hours of stop and go this week so no telling what my new MPGs truly are.

On a highway cruise I get 18-21 depending on the hills, around town, +/- 15. 235/85/16 Duratracs and I always have a heavy load on board.

My 265/75-16 tires result in 2.9% further distance traveled than the odometer shows after comparing to a GPS. MPG is about ~.5-.6 more than what the dash displays for a tank when doing the calculation by hand.

Long time reader. 1st time posting….

Got them tall skinny’s and wanted to give my stamp of approval. Living in the high sierra, got nuked with snow and this tire size lives up to the hype.

Tire : mastercraft courser trail hd 235/85/16

no rub, 3rd gen OR suspension.

    look great!

Toyo M-55s, which are very common around here on trucks used by loggers and other forestry/mining workers. Very durable and have the "mountain snowflake" logo for winter use in BC.

Truck is a 2022 AC MT with the factory TRD lift kit. Clearance is shown for the right front tire at "worst" angle. Same clearance on the driver's side. The fake beadlock wheels have a 10 mm offset versus the OR wheels at 25 mm, so the outer face of the tires are in the same location as stock.

Did a "calm" drive from Calgary to the BC Interior (~666 km) in early November and kept it at 90 km/h (55 mph) through the National Parks and most of the BC highways beyond. Averaged about 9.0 L/100 km (~26 mpg) after taking into account the larger diameter of the tires. They are running at around 45 psi to retain the full load carrying capacity of the stock tires...that probably helps with the fuel.

The 235/85 is the same diameter as the 265/75, and a bit narrower, so should be no rubbing. Wife has the latter on her Sport on OR wheels, and has never had a rub.

Hers are 265/75R16, mine are LT235/85R16. Based on some of this thread, and a really good series of videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_68Hc8GtLko and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1tTelhdEiM&t=0s
I decided this was the best option, given I was getting the factory lift with the slightly longer shocks. The 255/85R16 was't going to give me any more off-road capability, even if it's cooler looking.

Local dealers tend to stock all the 32 inch OD sizes for the loggers' trucks. Shot rock from recently blasted roads can be tough on any tire, even the M-55s, but the commercial Toyos do seem to stand up better than most.

I am thinking about getting 235/85R16 for my '21 SR AC. What wheel offset would I need to run to get these out more or less even with the sides? My only "fear" is if I keep the stock steels it might bring them in even farther.

Currently have 265/70r16 duratracs and can't decide between 235/85r16 or 265/75r16 for my next set of duratracs. Who has had both sizes? Read about someone siping them with good results, thinking about doing that also. I feel like it would help in icier conditions and wet pavement. I think they are killer in real snow, but think they could do better when it gets a little icy or on wet pavement.

I'm not too worried about any possible increased wear as I think the tires will age out before they wear out with how many miles I drive it.
