Definitely dont trust the Dealer to remove the cap, it would probably end up all scratched up and damaged. Funny you mentioned the 3.5 as recently l too have noticed the familiar Tacoma "sewing machine" sound just humming along.

Look, I admit that maybe I’m a Toyota bigot. But that said, I am on my 4th Tacoma (my first one in 1988 was before the called them Tacoma) about to turn 50k care free miles on it. My previous 3 all had well over 100k miles on them, either over 200k or sniffing at it. I work them hard and have played hard with them. They are not show or trophy vehicles. I’d say all told between the 4, over 600k miles. They each have been extremely reliable trucks. The one I have now is the nicest truck I have owned.

If I had to go out buy a 5th truck tomorrow, it would be another Toyota Tacoma. Just saying …

Same here I would by another one. I have had in the past 93, 98, 2004, 2008, 2021 and if I live long enough may get a couple of more Tacoma Generations in me. just saying love the Taco always did and always will.

So far the 3.5 in my truck hasn't gotten loud like others i've heard. If you listen closely you'd swear it was some sort of new kind of diesel.

Funny you would mention that cause I have had a few people ask me if my Taco was diesel. I said no it has something to do with the engine cleaning itself I think.

I have heard some 3rd gens at the red light with the slapping valves.

My 2nd gen 4cyl is loud at times mostly noticeable at start up. Nothing that did not sound normal to me and it's not like the cabin is all that quiet inside.

    A few.
237,000+ Tacomas sold in 2022 with all the craziness. I myself think that number will likely be higher for 2023 since its supposed to be the last year of the current generation.

21,454 Tacomas sold for 4/23 the numbers are increasing. I did see a few newer 3rd gens recently but not a lot. I can't help but think 3rd gen production will be winding down soon. Will May be the last month of production? Will one plant stay open producing the last of 3g Tacoma while the other retools for 4g?

I know, like at a 4 way stop and all four are Tacomas, who yields to who?

I dont think the 4th Gen is supposed to hit the Dealers until December so the 3rd Gen will probably be going along for the next few months still.

I suspect a lot of would be trade ins are way upside down then add on the high interest rates. I did the 15,000 service last week. The salesman said there were only two new Toyotas for sale in the lot (large dealership). He said the low mileage used Toyotas they paid a lot for and they are priced up so high they are not selling.

I see more midsizes than I used to in commercial use. I saw a Lightning yesterday, and a Rivian last week being operated by the local electric utility, they can afford them.

In my area I have seen 2 home contractors pulling their tool trailers with Tacoma. I see Tacos all over the place as they are pretty darn dependable compared to other brands. Not sure if they will come out with any 2024 if the 3rd is selling so good. just saying.

Where I work we have GM 2500s, Ford F250/350s and Dodge Ram. All of them are diesels. We pull up to 9,000+ lbs trailers with them. At times long distance. Makes me wonder if Toyota offered a diesel version of the Tacoma or Tundra if they would see more commercial sales?

No they don't. When the new CEO took over earlier this year he made the decision to increase production on the tacoma meaning they supply chain issues are corrected.

Many think Toyota is creating their own shortage to keep their truck prices high during this interest rate hike.
