The nap is the key. Stop when you wonder if you are sleepy or even fatigued . A break every 2 to 3 hours is just good practice as well as usually logical enough for gas. One thing to remember is to take care of all your needs at each stop... Even if you do not need to go... It is a real time killer to have to stop again a short time after a regular break because a need arose.

the furthest i have driven in a day in my tacoma and with adult dogs is about 400 miles.

the furthest i have driven to pick up a puppy from a breeder is about 300 miles one-way. as others mentioned, have a crate and take lots of breaks.

the furthest i have driven in one day in something other than a tacoma is about 600-700 miles. i can do about 10-12 hours of driving in one day with a break every 3-4 hours.

I’ll do about 1200 miles a day when driving cross country. Before my dog died I would just take him out for a quick walk around and some water when getting gas. Around his dinner time I’d stop to get myself food and let him eat.

I've done about 900 miles in one stretch. Took maybe 14 hours. I love driving long distance alone.

Consider staying the night somewhere close to the pick up spot so you are well rested for the return trip. You could get a dog that isn't bothered by separation from mom, bouncing down the road, etc...but it is more likely that won't be the case, and you don't want to be tired and irritable while it screams for hours. Talk to your vet about an anti nausea that is safe for puppies to bring with you just in case.

This is also going to be puppy's intro to crate training. Set them up for success and stop every hour to let them pee and move around. Plan on a much longer trip home with these circumstances.

Memphis after dark and gassing up in Farmington NM on a Saturday night 20 years ago. Memphis was just a high level of thuggery around, Farmington on that Sat night was like Night of the Living Dead. People laying half in the street, in the gutter, in the middle of the sidewalk. Stumbling down town with one shoe on. Been to Farmington probably 20 times since then and never witnessed anything like that again.

I did Myrtle Beach to Cocoa Beach and back in one straight shot. ~1000mi. too many coffees and 5-hour energy's. if you don't drink too much water you really don't need to stop that much. I only stopped for gas.

Interesting, and yeah, I've experienced the same feeling. I'm not overly paranoid or weirded out by things, but I also trust my mantuition. If a situation feels weird, it very well may be. I can't realign the stars, so I try and tell my stupid and obstinate self to keep my mouth shut and move on.

The longest that I have an actual distance for was Boston to Chicago in one shot, which is just under 1000 miles. That was in a first gen Tacoma. It's possible I've done longer, but I can't remember specific starting and stopping points. Longest day on a motorcycle was over 700 miles.

Longest drive in one day: St. Louis, MO to Charleston, SC to see a girl: 857mi and about 15 hours. It was the first time I saw the ocean. Same stats on the way back.

Longest bicycle ride in one day: St Paul, MN to the shore of Lake Mille Lacs carrying my camping gear: 125mi. Sunrise to sunset. Bicycle and gear minus water and food weighed under 40lbs. No dual batteries, RTT, refrigerator, or other nonsense. Under GVWR.

Depends on the puppy. They sleep a lot. Crate, food, water, collar, leash, etc. Stop and let the doggo pee/poop frequently.

    600 miles is pretty easy.

Victoria BC to Ashland OR (1150 miles) in one day on a motorcycle. There were three of us pounding down I5 and we were wrecked when we finally got there. Woke up the next day and did another 5 hours to get the rest of the way home. We spent two and a half weeks cruising and camping up hwy 1 from SF to Victoria and then shot straight home. It was an amazing trip.

Been there, done that -with good results. Daisey was THE sweetest. Adopting/Rescue is certainly an option, but what is most important is temperament which is often more predictable when you know the disposition of the parents. This dog will have to get along with 3-week old twin boys. IMG_1211.jpg

Drove from Columbia, SC to Palmer, MA for a wedding. Left at 3AM or so, didn’t get to my AirBnB until maybe 830ish that night.

Did it all in a lifted Wrangler that was okay going 70.

Longest in the Taco has been to Clarksville, TN, much more comfortable.

I drove to just outside Talledega to pick up my golden retriever, was about 5 hours, and my pup did just fine.

Drove from roseburg Oregon to denver Colorado, took 24hrs... it really sucked. Let around 6pm after work from roseburg, and drank alot of caffeine along the way. When I arrived in denver I wa so tired but couldnt sleep because of all the red bulls. I didnt stop to take breaks except to pee on the side of the road.

My issue after doing a long drive jacked up on caffeine is that when I arrive at my destination and try to sleep, my body jolts me back awake because I’ve been fighting off the thought of falling asleep for so long with the fear of driving off the road.
