A cutting board has to remain food safe at all times. Remember that a knife can cut into the board etc.. and it has to be Food Grade Mineral Oil.

Click on the Walrus Oil link I posted above so you can see what I am referring to.

Ok, really quick. The woodriver 5 1/2 jack plane is the best value in woodworking. With the plane, the water stones, the veritas jig, and all it ends up around 550 dollars. It will improve your quality of fit and finish 20 times that amount of money.

It has taken 6 months to get good with it. That is one fine tool.

But back to wrightme43 and his joy of having a quality tool, I totally relate. many many moons ago I bought my first house and decided to do some hobby woodworking since I'd learned woodworking in High school.

I bought a bunch of tools that were ok, but not super expensive, and I was able to do some ok work. I bought a Delta Contractor saw because visually I couldn't see any reason it wouldn't work the same as the cabinet saw for double the money.

After 20 some years of struggling to get a square cut, I finally broke down and sold it and bought a used Unisaw.

It was like night and day! My shop was almost instantly transformed. I started doing more projects and they all came out freakin perfect. That got me to look ago my other tools, so I started upgrading.

Bought my first Lie-Nielsen plane, just a lowly block plane, but damn! What a gem. It got pretty addictive for a while, luckily I now have pretty much everything I need and I'm starting to either sell or give away the old tools that worked, but never very well.

My old Milwaukee drill was made in China. It says made in the USA on the box, the box was indeed made in the US.

I did not experience joy in using a tool until I got my first Festools. The new mini systainer saw looks interesting, if I ever get a TS 75 I may get rid of my Delta and go with one of them.

I ended up deciding that the marriage was worth more than the $1000 off and free shipping on the A3 31 from Felder Canada's Black Friday sale , still not sure about that decision though

They get ya on the 'Assembled in USA with parts manufactured in China'. Something as simple as final assembly classifies as Made in USA. They could've inserted the chuck and screwed it down, done.

This was the point I was originally trying to make, with little success

Its rare to find a genuine American made item these days that doesnt involve outside components at the very minimum. Typically when you do find something, its astronomically expensive and not really attainable for folks like me that cant afford a $500 chisel set

Kinda reminds me of that Made in America store. I think there was a website but I haven't bothered to look into it.

Glad you posted that. I need y’all’s hand sanding devices. I hate the sponges and usually end up stapling a piece of sandpaper to a 2x4

    anyone have a favorite?

I buy their boxes of mixed grit cut offs. Excellent stuff and I use it on the lathe mostly. Comes in rolls like emery cloth. It's heavy cloth backed and you can just tear a piece of as needed, last a long time too.

The other day I saw a short video of someone's basement that was built for trains.. displays on the walls and then a huge track system covering the entire floor.

Kinda gave me the idea to build a Hot Wheels table in my basement.. perhaps some sort of diorama / display on the table top itself and then drawers underneath to hold "extra" HWs. - Thoughts? Ideas? Concerns? Plans? I'm thinking likely a 4x8 foot table top.
