I am new at the TTacoma so I know this has been asked! It has to have been!!

The stock radio head unit on the 2023 for me is a 1966 stock radio in any car back then as compared as in today.
Question what does this head unit do outside of the radio functions? I have not dug to deep into the settings as I have tried to install Maps and or Navigation on this thing. I have only been able to install toyota alexa and that is it, nothing else will install.
My Wife's cheap Rogue has everything in that radio so??
If you installed a Kenwood or Pioneer head unit what will you lose and what are the gains?

CarPlay… literally all I use for both music streaming and navigation.

Well what from what I found out, what i was told by a service writer all the head units in whatever vehicle are all the same units
it is what is programed in on the factory line.
So what ever modal tacoma you have the deck unit is the same as the trd pro that has all the radio features maps and navigation
just do not have them enabled in the lesser models??
kind of sucks having to buy a new deck unit to get them features and to get the rear speakers to work
then lose the functions that are programed into the stock deck unit

Service guy was spouting off bs; there are (at least) three different multimedia trims since 2020 and a quick look at the 2023 specs suggests this hasn’t changed:

    A. 7” Entune Audio
    B. 8” Entune Audio
    C. 8” Entune Premium (w/Dynamic Nav)
    D. 8” Entune Premium (JBL w/Dynamic Nav)

A, C, and D are fundamentally different physically (either different size or different wiring or both)

At least up through 2022, the difference between B and C was a physically separate Nav computer - and I’d be shocked if they bothered to change that without overhauling the rest of the head unit.

You could put a gun to my head, and have me use the OEM head unit to navigate somewhere, and I'd be SOL. CarPlay and updating the maintenance reminders.....about all I'm good for after 2yrs of ownership, and I tend to stumble when I have to do the maintenance reminders (though dope feature to remind you to replace blades, air filters, etc).
